I had always loved the concept of hands-on healing so I was excited to learn Reiki. As a massage therapist, I had always visualized universal healing energy flowing through me, concentrating in my hands, then flowing into the other person. And that, I learned, was the essence of Reiki!

For the first exercise in my Reiki Two class, the sixteen students split into eight pairs. Dee, the teacher, instructed those of us who chose to be “senders” to transmit healing energy (Choku Rei’s in Reiki terminology) to our partners, starting with our third eye to their third eye. I got impatient so I began firing off Choku Rei’s to my partner Jamie’s third eye before Dee gave us the green light. After a bit, I directed the energy to her heart, then elsewhere, and eventually back to her third eye.
After we were told to stop sending energy, the “receivers” took turns describing what they felt. I was Mr. Skeptical (“Yeah, right, like they actually felt something.”) Jamie was the last of the receivers to describe the experience. To my great surprise, she said that she started receiving my energy before Dee said to start sending it. Then she described the path of energy I sent her exactly the way I had sent it, adding that it was “very powerful.” Whoa!
Then it was my turn to receive. I remained hopeful but skeptical. Again, to my surprise, as soon as Jamie began transmitting energy from her third eye, I felt a dull sensation in my third eye. Incredible!
Color me convinced. Never again will I doubt the reality that we all have the power to work with the conscious energy field that surrounds and sustains us.

Awesome! I am in a distance healing tutorial now and I am interested because even though I am never quite sure what I am doing the people receiving the reiki get it, feel it, and respond. It works!

I know! I had an awesome opportunity in January to visit one of the best Reiki healers around today.
The energy just flows out of him and we discussed the (quite wrong) way I’ve been healing since I was little. It allowed both of us to become aware of other methods.
As we neared the end of the session, the flow and energy became so thick and intense that it almost felt solid! It kind of reminded me of when you take a bubble bath and you get a big clump of bubbles between your palms. Really awe inducing stuff! :)
