Charice—Her Life Story (Told in Videos)
Charice has been singing since she was four years old! Here she is in the Bulilit Star Quest competition she won as a wee sprout of ten! A clip from this performance, dated September 21, 2002, was shown on Rated K, a Sunday night magazine news show on the ABS-CBN network, when host Korina Sanchez interviewed Charice on or about May 30, 2008.
Warning: Be prepared to overdose on cuteness!
TO LOVE YOU MORE
Here is Charice singing the same song in the final round.
And here is the announcement that Charice is the contest winner! How adorable can one girl be?
For the sake of contrast, let’s fast-forward six years and listen to Charice singing the same song seven years later on November 13, 2008 on UKG (Umagang Kay Ganda, which roughly translates to “Good Morning”), a morning variety show in the Philippines.
Here is Charice at age twelve on June 26, 2004, singing with two other finalists in the Bulilit Popstar contest, in which competitors have to imitate their idol. Charice sang Whitney Houston songs and was the eventual runner-up. Singing along with the three girls are three adult Fillipino pop stars. Charice is paired with Kyla, known as the R&B Princess of the Philippines.
Here is another 2004 Bulilit Popstar performance in which Charice is joined by four other young contestants in a Black Eyed Peas song. One of the performers, Catherine Loria, was later named the Grand Prize winner in the 2008 World Championships of Performing Arts (WCOPA) in Hollywood.
SHUT UP
Charice sang this duet from the movie Cinderella in a guest appearance on the second season of Search for the Star in a Million. Her duet partner is Kris Lawrence, the competition’s winner. That contest ended on January 22, 2006, so this performance has to be before that date.
A DREAM IS A WISH THAT YOUR HEART MAKES
Charice sang snippets from a few songs on the April 24, 2006 edition of Home Boy, a morning talk show hosted by Boy Abunda on ABS-CBN. Singing with her is Sam Concepcion, who won the Little Big Star competition in which Charice placed third. That contest ended on April 8, 2006.
Here is Charice on August 24, 2006 singing a Sharon Cuneta medley with fellow singers Michelle Ayalde and Karel Marquez on Wowowee, a noontime variety and game show broadcast by ABS-CBN. Incidentally, the Tagalog word “kapamilya” means “folks.” It’s a tagline used by ABS-CBN, which calls its viewers “kapamilya” to suggest that they are part of their family.
KAPAMILYA TELESERYES
THANKS TO YOU
Here is Charice singing a Bonnie Tyler hit with her mother, Raquel, at an outdoor party in September 2007. The video was taken by Charice’s friend, Neve, during a vacation in the Philippine province of Samar.
TOTAL ECLIPSE OF THE HEART
Here is Charice singing in Batangas at a friend’s baptism reception in November 2007, courtesy of Charice’s friend, Neve. It’s fun to see Charice cut loose and add some signature moves to her performance. And in case you hadn’t noticed, the girl has some serious pipes on her!
MacARTHUR PARK
As a bonus, here are some videos of Charice singing at he Dayrit house in Dasma Village, a gated community in Manila, on February 19, 2008, when she was still fifteen years old.

My first time to see those “in house” videos Phil. Rare find for sure. From the architecture I would guess they were taken in the Philippines, maybe at a party.
Thx for the new look at Charice.

Thanks for the insights about the architecture, hoz. I appreciate it.

Wow! this girl is incredible! My only regret is nobody was smart enough to offer her a recording deal at age 9! She should be in the stratosphere of superstardom by now! Anyway, I am so glad for youtube and internet. At least we can see this now. It is unthinkable that such a treasure was hidden to the world for all these years. The most important thing are the lessons Charice learned through all the dark years – it is more valuable than fame and money. All these will come and I pray that she will be ready.
It is so precious to see her carefree and enjoying herself – to be young and happy and jubilant and giving thru her singing. These will be the moments that she can look back on.
Watching these videos, especially the private ones, Charice hasn’t changed at all. SHE IS A HAPPY, FUNNY, COOL, SMART, SUPERKID, SO LOVABLE !
January 15, 2010 at 9:45 AM
Yes, Victoria, the hard times taught Charice to be patient, persistent, self-reliant, and to turn to her family for strength and support. If fame had come right away, who knows how that would have changed her?

Wow!!!! I love your blog, Phil….Where did you get all those home videos? I’ve been tracking Charice’s videos and this is my first time to view these clips. What’s funny was her moves…so carefree, babyish, jolly, and all smiles. I can’t help laughing watching her moves while enjoying her powerful voice. You’re on your way to the top, Charice!!!
Thanks, Phil for sharing this site with us.
