Charice knocked the socks off of some of her country’s most powerful and influential people on Thursday, January 15, 2009 at the People of the Year 2008 Awards Night (celebrating People Asia magazine’s ninth anniversary) in the Grand Plaza Ballroom at the Sofitel Philippine Plaza Hotel. Charice, recognized as one of twelve People of the Year in Asia for 2008, is the youngest recipient in the award’s five-year history.
Charice performed three songs that evening: the Bodyguard medley of I Have Nothing and I Will Always Love You, Listen, and I Will Survive. The Beyonce song Listen was rearranged for Charice by David Foster, who noted during their appearance on Good Morning America that Charice assisted with the rearranging. “She’s a musical genius,” Foster said. “She can rearrange a song so easily, as if she’s just picking a dress from the closet.”

Charice was back on Boy and Kris the next day, January 16, although the show had been taped earlier. All the songs she sings are from Air Supply. To kick things off, Charice is joined by Journey lead singer Arnel Pineda; Nina, known as the Philippine “Soul Siren”; and singer/actor Mark Bautista.

For a tribute to Michael Jackson on Boy and Kris on February 6, 2009, Charice was joined by Aiza Seguerra; Nina, known as the Philippine “Soul Siren;” and Gary Valenciano.
The first video features two duets—first Charice and Nina, then Charice and Aiza. Gary V. closes with a solo performance of Thriller.
BEAT IT and BILLIE JEAN
Charice then sings two solos. Finally, all four singers share the stage for the closing number.

Charice was back on Boy and Kris on February 12, 2009, singing an abbreviated version of a Rihanna megahit.

The very next day, March 8, Charice performed two songs on ASAP (All-Star Sunday Afternoon Party), a weekly TV show on ABS-CBN. A diva trio of Charice, Sarah Geronimo and Zsa Zsa Padilla kicked things off with a Journey song.
SEPARATE WAYS
Next up on the same show is a quartet of divas: Charcie, Zsa Zsa Padilla Kuh Ledesma and Pops Fernandez. The other three divas, along with Asia’s Songbird, Regine Velasquez, are touring the U.S. and Canada together from March 20 to May 30, 2009 as Divas4Divas. According to Kuh Ledesma’s website:

On Sunday, May 3, 2009, Charice was the featured performer at the 30th-anniversary party for Melawares, a producer of quality tableware and the Philippines’ largest manufacturer. The event, called Your Music on the Table, was staged at SM Makati, a mall in the Ayala Center Business District. For more information on the event, read this article in the Philippine Star.
Charice sang the Melawares jingle and three songs from My Inspiration, her second Star Records album, which has a release date of June 2, 2009. The twelves tracks are, in order: Always You (single edit), Wind Beneath My Wings (pop mix), I’ll Be There, You’ll Never Stand Alone, You Raise Me Up, Mama, In My LIfe, Through The Years, For Mama, You And Me Against The World (a duet with mommy Raquel!), Always You (full version), and Wind Beneath My Wings (orchestral mix). Two days later, Charice also sang Wind Beneath My Wings at a press conference held at the 9501 restaurant of ABS-CBN.
Here is the June 11, 2009 televised announcement of Charice’s first major solo concert, CHARICE: THE JOURNEY BEGINS, to be held at the SMX Convention Center in the Mall of Asia Complex in Pasay City in the Philippines The show is 24 Oras, the flagship primetime news broadcast of the GMA Network in the Philippines. The announcement came during Chika Minute, the show’s celebrity news segment.
Here is a brief interview with Charice and Asia’s Songbird, Regine Velasquez, who was scheduled to be Charice’s special guest. Unfortunately, Regine wound up sick in the hospital and could not participate.

I noticed that the Melawares videos with Charice were removed due to violation. If you wish to have the video back, you may use mine published in you tube and you can edit it too. The video is clear but not so steady. The audio is good.
I always visit your site because of Charice. I kept on coming back to check what you have for Charice to date. Thank you for your wonderful writing.

Hi Phil, I noted in BnK and Diva4Diva clippings, that Boy/Kris/Divas like ZsaZsa/Kuh/Pops, all of them seem to give high regard on Charice now. Unlike before, after losing the singing contest in ABS-CBN, the management simply disregarded her talent after that. Charice frequently guests on BnK now, but only when Charice started being noticed and given the accolade on Star King in South Korea. Thanks to FalseVoice, and to you too for carrying on in updating us, we appreciate it very much. Charice to us is not just a diva, or an icon, but overall an inspiration to all of us.
