Charice Pempengco, the sixteen-year-old singing sensation from the Philippines who I’ve written about extensively, announced the big news live on Wowowee, a Philippines noon-time variety and game show, on Saturday, January 10. She’ll be performing at President Obama’s Inaugural Ball on Sunday, January 18.
UPDATE!
In an interview with ABS-CBN News, Charice revealed that she will be singing God Bless America and One Moment In Time at the Inaugural Ball. The two songs were chosen by Obama’s staff.
I’ve been telling people that Charice is going to be huge. Well, this event will be her coming-out party. If you’d like to get to know her before she performs for the President-elect, check out my blog posts about her.
Why am I writing about a teenage singer on a spiritual blog? I’ll answer that with a paragraph I wrote about Charice’s breakout performance on a South Korean talent show in October 2007:
Charice was more than a teenage girl that day, she was a force of nature. With joyous abandon, she threw herself into her performance, transcended her surroundings, and became a walking, talking celebration of the music of life itself. Transfixed, we felt ourselves transported to the kind of world we all pray for when we close our eyes and dare to dream. Yes, Charice had arrived, and the world, and our hearts, would never be the same.

Yes, Charice confirmed it herself that she will be at President-elect Barack Obama’s pre-inaugural ball on January 18, 2009 in Washington DC.
She announced this on a Philippine noontime show Wowowee where she sang as a guest with singing contestants on January 10, 2009. She said she’s flying out to US on January 16th.

Yes, the only reason why i didn’t include that entire 10-minute video is because there were no subtitles. So I used only the portion in which she announced her U.S. trip, and which somebody added subtitles to. Charice fans worldwide cannot contain their excitement!

I am positive, Charice will dazzle prominent crowd on BO Inaugural Ball to be held in the White House, Washington DC on 01/18/09. Can’t wait to watch her singing with her new original song entitled, “The Power of the Dream”.

Charice is the best Ambassador of the Philippines. She has done more to lift the spirits of Filipinos abroad and at home. She has behaved impeccably through all her encounters with the mighty and the powers that be and she remains unaffected by it all. I am amazed and she has gained my respect and adoration. She is an inspiration truly.
