Trent Tucker Honored at the U of M

NBA great Trent Tucker joined me at the Continuum Center

Trent Trucker, one of the storytellers in my book, Sixty Seconds: One Moment Changes Everything, will have his jersey retired tonight at his alma mater, the University of Minnesota.

Trent was kind enough to join five other contributors to my book for a great evening of storytelling and lively conversation at the Continuum Center in Minneapolis on Wednesday, October 1. Here is Trent sharing the essence of the story he shared in my book:

Here are details about tonight’s ceremony, courtesy of the university’s website:

The University of Minnesota and the Gopher men’s basketball program announced that the jersey of former Gopher great Trent Tucker will join four other former Gophers in the rafters of Williams Arena.  The ceremony for the retirement of Tucker’s jersey will take place at halftime of the Minnesota-Indiana game on Feb. 10.

A native of Flint, Mich., Tucker was recruited by and played four seasons for head coach Jim Dutcher (1978-82). He amassed 1,445 career points at Minnesota (8th all-time) and finished among other Gopher greats with 164 career steals (3rd all-time), 631 field goals made (6th all-time) and a .772 (183-237) free-throw percentage (7th all-time). As a senior in 1982, Tucker led the Gophers to a 23-6 overall record (14-3 in the Big Ten), the school’s last Big Ten Championship and also garnered All-American status.

Tucker, who received his degree from the “U” in 2004, was the sixth overall section in the 1982 NBA Draft by the New York Knicks and went on to play 11 seasons in the NBA with the Knicks (1982-91), the San Antonio Spurs (1991-92) and finished his career with an NBA Championship with 1992-93 Chicago Bulls. Currently, Tucker is the Senior Vice-President of Community Outreach and Youth Development at the University of Minnesota and also works as an analyst for the Big Ten Network during its broadcasts of Big Ten Conference men’s basketball.
