Dan Dunn

Dan Dunn is amazing. I’m grateful for the talent I’ve been blessed with, but one thing I always wished I could do was draw and paint. I just never imagined doing it at 100 mph!

Here’s some info about Dan from his website:

Dan Dunn has a background in painting, design and caricature spanning thirty years. He has won numerous national awards and been commissioned to draw many famous people during that time. He has drawn caricatures for former President George H. W. Bush, Sting (Gordon Sumner), Jimmy Buffett, Joe Theisman, Fran Tarkenton, Ray Childress, Warren Moon and Houston Mayor Bob Lanier, to name a few. His painting commemorating the brave men and women of the Columbia shuttle mission hangs at NASA.

Dan studied painting at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas. He specialized in oil painting and watercolor and also enjoyed sculpture and life drawing.

He started drawing caricatures at Six Flags, Astroworld in 1977 as a college student. He worked nine seasons and became the artist trainer.

He worked in the advertising/graphic design business but left to devote himself to caricatures full time in 1989, forming a caricature artist talent agency, Caricatures Ink. Dan soon found himself drawing for over two hundred events per year, with people waiting in line for hours at events.

Deep in debt, Dan was looking for a way to meet his family’s growing needs. His wife asked him what his plan was. He replied that he was going to rent a storage warehouse, drape it in plastic and throw some paint! She never wavered in her support. twenty-four years together and still going strong!

Dan had amazing success right from the beginning which led to being part of a stage show in Atlantic City, Dan’s daughter posted video from the show on YouTube where it received millions of hits and gained Dan worldwide attention.

Dan was inspired by the world renowned painter Denny Dent. Denny passed away at fifty-five years young in the prime of his career. Dan is finding his own voice within this fascinating new genre of performance art.
