Dr. Ibrahim Jaffe Sails Into a Miracle

Dr. Ibrahim Jaffe

I was pleased to interview Dr. Ibrahim Jaffe for my book, Sixty Seconds: One Moment Changes Everything. Ibrahim, a licensed medical doctor, clairvoyant, healer and spiritual teacher, co-founded what is now the University of Spiritual Healing & Sufism. He told me two stories. I could only fit one story in the book but I am pleased to print the second one here.

I spend a lot of time sailing. In 1995, I sailed from St. Martin over to the island of Saba, four or five hours south of St. Martin. We got caught in a fairly bad storm. There were ten-foot waves on the ocean, twenty to thirty knot winds, which in sailing is a lot. You like to sail at around eight to ten knots. When you get up to thirty, you’re really getting kicked around out there. We were sailing into the wind and it got pretty nasty.

After thirty minutes, my wife and both kids started throwing up

from seasickness and continued doing so for an hour and a half. A couple hours off the coast of Saba, my wife said, “Can’t you do anything about this wind and what’s going on here?” I said, “Let me go to God and pray about it and see if God’s willing to do anything about this”. She said, “Please.” I was a fairly new Sufi at this point.

I put my head down and I prayed, and I asked, “Allah, can you please shift the wind patterns and make it more pleasant so that my family will stop being sick and we can have a joyful sail to Saba.” The minute I said that, in the inner world, I heard what sounded like the crack of lightning. All of a sudden, in my third eye, light started to form, as if a streaming of light came out of my third eye and began to go upward. I felt the light spread out throughout the whole horizon. All of this happened within a wink of an eye.

I could see the light outside of me as well, as a translucent light that spread out across the ocean. Within ten seconds, the wind began to cut down. Within a minute, it went from thirty knots to twenty knots to around eight to ten knots. Within no more than four to five minutes, the seas began to calm until there were beautiful, balmy two-foot waves.

The rest of the trip, which lasted another hour or two, was as perfect sailing as you could want. My family stopped throwing up, the sun came out, it was warm. My wife looked at me and said, “Please, whenever we sail, will you pray and ask Allah to protect us so that we never have to sail under those conditions again?”

I was aware that a miracle had occurred, that through prayer, God heard me. t God was so merciful as to respond to me, and He also showed me with a clear vision essentially how He changes creation. Within a couple minutes, it went from stormy weather to perfect weather. It was just unbelievable. It’s what you dream about. It’s what you hope for when you’re in a risky situation and you’re scared, that through praying and asking God for help, that He might respond.

I was incredibly touched by this experience and it changed my relationship with God. It made me know there was a God, it made me trust that God listens, and that when I needed God, He would be there for me in any type of situation. I already believed in God but you always have some questions in your mind. Seeing a miracle is not the same as believing it. I believed, but that wasn’t the same as watching a miracle unfold right in front of me.
