Get Off the Train!

Who among us has not found ourselves in a job that drains our soul, in an activity that no longer serves us, or in a relationship that has clipped our wings instead of enabling us to soar? Yet instead of ending what needs to end, our fear of the unknown and (often) misguided sense of obligation keeps us tethered to that which saps our strength and blocks our enjoyment of life.

The hard truth is that no matter how determined you are, you cannot keep a situation that has already begun to unravel from unraveling. Your intentions may be pure, you may expend enormous amounts of energy scrambling to maintain the status quo, but you might as well be running endless loops on a giant hamster wheel for all the good your efforts will do.

The job, activity or relationship may have once been a blessing in your life, but if the tide has irrevocably turned, you must find the courage to walk away and trust that a new and better adventure awaits. In the end, listening to your intuition and doing what’s best for you will also turn out best for everyone involved. So shed some tears, transcend your fears and put an end to wasted years.

If you board the wrong train, it is no use running along the corridor in the other direction.

so true…. amazing how when it comes to getting out of a bad marriage, though, these rules don’t always seem to apply. It’s easy to get wrapped up in thinking you have to do “the right thing”, and easy to believe that the “right thing” is to keep those vows… for better or worse… etc. Eventually I realized I wasn’t doing anyone any favors by staying… So, ending a bad situation wasn’t just about being selfish… even though that is how some people will make you feel…

  2. Phil Bolsta Says:

Yep, you have to follow your own intuition, Samantha. It won’t lead you astray.
