Let’s introduce these Rube Goldberg creations with a non-Rube music video. OK Go, a rock band originally from Chicago, created an Internet sensation with their music video for Here It Goes Again, which quickly became known simply as “The Treadmill Video.” Watch and see for yourself why this video has logged over 50 million views on YouTube.
Could OK Go top themselves with their next video? Yep. Big time. Inspired by Pulitzer Prize-winning cartoonist Rube Goldberg, here is their video for This Too Shall Pass, which has garnered around 10 million hits on YouTube in less than four weeks. The band hired Syyn Labs to design and build the set.
Below is Syyn Labs’ most popular Rube Goldberg video, “The Athlete Machine,” which features Xtreme Athletes pitching in along the way.
I suspect that OK Go got the idea for their new video from this Honda commercial, which set a new standard for ingenuity and fun!
The concept of a Rube Goldberg machine gained more national exposure when nineteen-year-old Sprice successfully auditioned for America’s Got Talent in June 2013.
Check out more of Sprice’s Rube Goldberg videos here, including this one he calls, “A Convenient Way to Put On Sunglasses”
My first exposure to Rube Goldberg was Mouse Trap, a board game my sister and I loved playing. Setting things in motion and watching the sequence unfold was endlessly entertaining!
As a bonus, here is how a group of creative thinkers devised a way to open the drapes in the morning. Think of it as Mouse Trap on steroids!
Thanks, Rube, for all the hours of enjoyment! You’re a genius!

Phil’s eBook, The Logic of Living a Spiritual Life: Supporting a Life of Faith Through Logic and Reason, is now available for 99 cents on Amazon.
Order it at GodIsLogical.com.
In this eBook, you’ll find answers to questions like:
• What is the cornerstone of a spiritual life, and why?
• What is the secret to liberating yourself from other people’s judgments and expectations?
• Why is there an exception to “Everything happens for a reason”?
Those who worship logic instead of God are only half right. Not only is it logical to believe in God and to live a faith-based life, the existence of a loving, benevolent God that governs all creation is perhaps the only systematic worldview that explains every aspect of life.
