When you live with integrity, peer pressure does not constrain you. You live your life, as psychologist Abraham Maslow taught, “independent of the good opinion of others.”
I prefer to be true to myself, even at the hazard of incurring the ridicule of others, rather than to be false, and to incur my own abhorrence.
You recognize that going along to get along will be more stressful in the long run than any momentary discomfort that comes from standing your ground.
When I do and say what everyone else says and does, then no one calls me irresponsible. But at that time, I am.
Though your decisions may create conflict with those closest to you, you heed the voice of your conscience. You trust that a wisdom greater than your own is at work and that the ramifications of your choices and actions will ultimately advance the highest good of everyone involved.
How many cares one loses when one decides not to be something but to be someone.
