Bring In the Light

Do you get mad at yourself for making mistakes, for not living up to your expectations, for not rising above your imperfections? If so, the worst thing you can do is beat yourself up for not being perfect. Focusing on what you do wrong ensures that you’ll never do those things right. It sounds radical, but learn to love your imperfections. After all, you would not be a complete person without your flaws.

Instead of mentally flogging yourself for your errors, focus your attention on all the things that are good about you. Be kind to yourself. Above all, keep striving to improve yourself in every way, to raise your consciousness to ever new heights. As you grow personally and spiritually, you will begin to make better choices, to become more disciplined and to view your mistakes as opportunities for growth and self-awareness.

In those times when you do get upset with yourself, take to heart these words of wisdom from Paramahansa Yogananda:

You don’t get rid of the darkness in a room by beating it with a stick; you get rid of darkness by bringing in the light.

Thank you, Phil. At times we become so focused on our shortcomings that it inhibits our spiritual growth. Again, just what I needed to read! “We shall come rejoicing, bringing in the Light.”

  2. Phil Bolsta Says:

Hope your day is filled with light, Barbara!

  3. shadywilbury Says:

Wow. Truth indeed. I knew there was a reason I was gravitating to Yoganandaji again. Thanks for this post, thanks for the quote. May Encinitas bring you abundant blessings.
