Earnie Larsen
Earnie Larsen, a pioneer in the field of addiction recovery, passed away on 1/11/11. He was a nationally known author and lecturer who produced more than eighty motivational self-help books, tapes and videos. More importantly, Earnie was a trusted friend to the thousands of people he had personally coached to sobriety, and to the untold thousands more who turned their lives around through Earnie’s books and talks.
My friend, Tom Gegax, who counted Earnie among his very best friends, told me that Earnie was a saint of a man. After watching this twenty-three-minute video, there’s no question that Tom’s assessment was spot on. I only wish I could have known Earnie. You’ll feel the same.
I pulled this eighty-seven-second clip from the complete video because it profoundly captures the essence of Earnie Larsen—his outstanding attitude and love for life, which were only heightened in the last months of his life. If you only have time for a quick introduction to Earnie, this will tell you all you need to know about the man.

Dear Phil
I am not quite sure how to start this but here we go. Earnie was my peer. I say peer as it was used in the Spartan culture. I knew nothing about Spartans until my mentor and dear friend explained it to me. In Spartan war each individual Spartan was a part of a phalanx one beside the other until a wedge of men and more importantly sheilds you see if you were in that phalanx you held your sheild to the man to your left therefore another man was always on your right. I have literally hundreds of letters from Earnie Larsen all are signed your friend and peer on your right Earnie.
He was my friend, my mentor, my brother, Spartan soldier on my right.
Earnie was tougher than any Sparton who walked the earth.
I love him and I am in mourning for a man who frankly saved my life and helped me to become the man I am today

Thank you so much for sharing this, Derek. A friend of mine was a good friend of Earnie’s and your testimonial echoes his. I never met Earnie, and that is my loss. He was clearly a great man and a lifeline for hundreds, if not thousands, of people in need.

“Cancer is my flashlight, and I see wonderful things . . .” My heart is so full from watching this, hearing this man speak. Beautiful, crystal clear living in the truth of who we really are. So grateful for his words. Thank you for sharing.
