Three Good Things

Is this statement true:

You don’t know what you’ve got till it’s gone.

If it is, it doesn’t have to be. You can learn to consciously live with gratitude for what you have been blessed with. Starting right now.

Name three good things in your life:

• A prized possession

• Someone you love

• An aspect of your health

Close your eyes and imagine, one by one, those things disappearing from your life. Take thirty seconds to grieve the loss of each one. Now open your eyes and give thanks that all three of them are still yours. Do this exercise every so often, occasionally choosing different things to be thankful for, and you will be far less likely to ever take them for granted again.

When you learn to live in the present moment, the now, you will no longer need to practice gratitude, for it becomes your natural state of being.

The value of moments, when cast up, is immense, if well employed; if thrown away, their loss is irrevocable.
Lord Chesterfield
