Adam Lambert—Living the Queen Dream!

ADAM LAMBERT & QUEEN
JUNE 30, 2012 IN KIEV

Back in 2009, an unknown Adam Lambert auditioned for American Idol by singing Queen‘s “Bohemian Rhapsody.” Three years later, in Kiev, Adam performed the same song in concert with Queen—guitarist Brian May, drummer Roger Taylor and, via video, late lead singer Freddie Mercury. A dream team supreme!

I love rags to riches stories like this! Imagine telling Adam after his 2009 American Idol audition that he would be performing the same song as the lead singer for Queen in Russia in the very near future. Hello! That would be like telling a rookie minor leaguer that instead of riding buses all day and eating McDonald’s that he’d soon be smashing a home run to win the World Series in front of millions.

Back in 2009, during the final show of American Idol, I tweeted that Adam should be the new lead singer of Queen. Less than thirty minutes later, who were Adam and fellow contestant Kris Allen performing with? None other than Queen! A fellow Twitter user tweeted to ask if I was psychic!

If Adam had wanted to join Queen, it probably would have been a done deal. But Adam understandably wanted to pursue a solo career. So I (and millions of other fans) were thrilled a couple years later when Adam and Queen announced plans to team up for occasional concerts together. I’m not a huge music fan but Adam + Queen is a must-see event that I always look forward to!

I listened to the entire two hour concert yesterday and thought, as the translator repeated everything Adam said to the huge Russian speaking audience, what a worldwide unifying experience this is. Music is such a universal language, and Queen truly belongs to the world. And it seems, so does Adam!

Well said, Cyndee. I’ll be watching the entire concert myself soon!

  5. Holly Gray Says:

I am a huge American Idol fan, huge music fan, and huge Queen fan. This was one of the greatest moments in American Idol history for me, as Adam was my top choice that year. And now he’s on Glee, one of my other favorite shows!

    Adam is te best, Holly!
