Standing outside Whole Foods today, I watched as a middle-age man passed by with a sad look on his face. Looking around, it struck me that among all the people seated outside, some were no doubt gossiping or complaining about someone or something. And I thought, Why are you wasting time and precious breath contributing negative energy to the world when you are surrounded by people starving for connection, compassion, validation and affection? Instead of clucking about somebody’s flaws, you can literally transform yourself and the world around you by choosing to be a source of love, hope and healing energy to all who cross your path.
What does that look like? It could be as simple as offering a warm, genuine smile to someone passing by. Or sending an affectionate text to a friend. Or telling a stranger that they have a beautiful smile. It doesn’t take much to make someone’s day. Click here for some idea starters.
I hope you choose to make the shift—from criticizing people to complimenting them, from blaming others to blessing them, from complaining about life to celebrating every day. I can guarantee that if you don’t choose to adopt a more positive approach, you will look back on this day with remorse and regret in your final hours and lament your failure to become a positive force for good in the world.
Choose kindness. Choose it today. This world is in desperate need of virtuous, kind-hearted people who can lift all of humanity up simply by being who they are.
Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle.
Rev. John Watson
