A Wedding Blessing from Paramahansa Yogananda

On Wednesday, August 1, 2012, in the middle of the weeklong Self-Realization Fellowship World Convocation, two devotees from Brazil, J.P. and Jussara, were married at the SRF Hollywood Temple, about twenty minutes away from the Westin Bonaventure, the downtown Los Angeles hotel that was hosting the Convocation.

A couple of hours before the ceremony, two devotees and longtime friends at the Bonaventure (one of whom was a friend of mine who told me this story directly) were discussing how to reach the Hollywood Temple by train. A woman devotee from Iran standing nearby overheard the conversation and volunteered some helpful advice. In gratitude, the two devotees invited her to the ceremony. She happily accepted the invitation, suddenly understanding why she had felt compelled to dress in her best outfit that morning instead of her more casual clothes.

Arriving at the temple, the Iranian devotee entered the empty chapel. Delighted to see a display featuring the likeness of SRF founder Paramahansa Yogananda on the altar, she took the above photo with her cellphone in low light with no flash. My friend’s friend was with her when she took the photo and marveled at the result along with her. Surprised, she took a few more shots but none of her other efforts revealed the same blue glow emanating from Yogananda’s spiritual eye. In SRF’s teachings, devotees who deeply and regularly meditate will see a blue light at the spiritual eye, located at the point between the eyebrows.

J.P. and Jussara were grateful for this special wedding blessing from their Guru!
