That’s me in the middle with my good friends Scott and Pam Carlson
I was having dinner at Ecopolitan tonight with my longtime friends Scott and Pam Carlson when Jeff the chef came out and presented us with three Orange Julia smoothies. I had no idea why he brought them to our table because we hadn’t ordered them. But since I had been living in Encinitas, California for over a year and had just come back to Minneapolis for a visit, and since I had pretty much lived at Ecopolitan for years and knew everybody that worked there, I figured that a mistake in someone’s order had been made and they decided to give us the excess. Sweet! We made quick work of the three smoothies and enjoyed every gulp!

Preston and Liz
Fifteen minutes later, my friend Preston Palmer walked into the restaurant and asked where his smoothies were. GAH! I was staying with Preston and his significant other, Liz, that week in their home right upstairs from Ecopolitan. Preston, who was hosting a client meeting, said he was going to order three smoothies and asked if I would mind bringing them upstairs to him so he wouldn’t have to leave his clients alone. I had been so engrossed in conversation with Scott and Pam that I had completely blitzed out Preston’s request. Instead, when Jeff brought the three smoothies out, I thought, “Awesome! Free smoothies!”
I half expected an announcer to pop out from behind the woodwork and exclaim, “Good evening, ladies and gentlemen, and welcome to another episode of That’s Embarrassing!
Fortunately, Preston has a great sense of humor and thought my smoothie snafu was hilarious. He ordered three more smoothies, which Scott and I dutifully brought upstairs a few minutes later. We enjoyed meeting his clients and, in the end, everyone was happy and chock-full of smoothie. But it’s still going to take a while to live that one down!
The moral of the story? Beware of chefs bearing free smoothies!

Oh that’s hilarious! I’ll be thinking of you when I buy my new smoothie maker in three days and feeling relieved you live on the other side of the world!!

Ouch! That hurts, Nicke! I would never accidentally unintentionally inadvertently consume your smoothie. Hmmm, then again, I guess I can’t make any promises!
