Jeffrey Adam Gutt
When Jeffrey Adam Gutt stepped on the X Factor stage on September 20, 2012, he was singing for his life. At thirty-six, Gutt, a single dad with a four-year-old son, was almost out of chances. He was barely making ends meet and needed to make something good happen fast. As he noted before he sang, failure was not an option.
It’s a common refrain: you’re in your twenties and living a carefree existence, then one day you wake up and find that you’re in your mid-thirties without a whole lot to show for it. The good news for singers is that going through tough times enables them to sing more authentically and with deeper emotion, which is what connects a singer to an audience. So it’s no surprise that the judges and audience were moved by Jeffrey’s performance. With nothing to lose, he poured everything he had into his song, singing with an authority and passion that he probably couldn’t have done in his younger days.
No matter how far Jeffrey goes on this show, I’m guessing that his music career just got the boost it needs to take him where he needs to go.
