Coincidence? I Think Not!

rotary-phoneAbout ten years ago, I was at the airport, looking forward to spending a weekend in Denver with my old high school buddy, Tom, and his wife, Sandy. When I found out my flight had been postponed from 1 PM to 6 PM, I hopped on a pay phone and called their home number. When Sandy answered, I gave her the message and she called Tom at work to tell him not to leave for the airport yet. She caught him just in time; another few seconds and he would have been out the door. He was an hour away from the Denver airport so he would have been stranded there; after all, it wouldn’t have made sense to drive back and forth twice just to get another couple hours of work in.

What’s cool is that when I got to Denver, Tom told me their home phone hadn’t been working for weeks. Sandy was surprised when it rang with my call. She had hung up with me, called Tom to give him the message, and then the phone went dead again for what turned out to be another week or two.

I love stories like that! Amazingly enough, it’s not the first time that something seemingly impossible happened involving me, Tom and a phone call. Years ago, months after I had moved out of the apartment I had shared with two college buddies, I visited them for the first time since I had left. In the ten minutes I was there, the phone rang. Mike answered, then handed me the phone and said, “It’s for you.” It was Tom calling. He didn’t know I had moved and I hadn’t given him my new phone number since he never called me. Seriously, I think that was the only time in at least a five-year period that he had called. I still marvel at how impeccable his timing was.

Coincidences are just God’s way of remaining anonymous.

Phil’s eBook, The Logic of Living a Spiritual Life: Supporting a Life of Faith Through Logic and Reason, is now available for 99 cents.

In this eBook, you’ll find answers to questions like:
• What is the cornerstone of a spiritual life, and why?
• What is the secret to liberating yourself from other people’s judgments and expectations?
• How do you reconcile the “free will vs. Divine Will” conundrum?
• Why is there an exception to “Everything happens for a reason”?

Those who worship logic instead of God are only half right. Not only is it logical to believe in God and to live a faith-based life, the existence of a loving, benevolent God that governs all creation is perhaps the only systematic worldview that explains every aspect of life.

SiSe_fullcover_final.inddPhil is also the author of Sixty Seconds: One Moment Changes Everything, a collection of 45 inspiring, life-changing stories from prominent authors and thought leaders he interviewed. What a great story! I too agree that there is more to coincidences than meets the eye. I have experienced far too many to believe otherwise.

    Best wishes
