Follow Your Destiny

destiny-iife-painted-on-highwayBy my fortieth birthday, I knew what my life’s work would be—encouraging and inspiring people to live more positive, loving lives. I began teaching a class on affirmations and spiritual principles at Pathways, a health crisis resource center, but my vision beyond that was foggy at best.

Slowly, the fog began lifting. My intuition informed me that I was to write a book based on the content of my class; I immediately began collecting relevant material and filing it away. A few years later, it occurred to me that asking prominent spirituality authors to tell me about a life-changing experience would be a fun way to connect to the writers I admired most; The Edge, a Minneapolis-based spiritual magazine, agreed to print them. And then Tires Plus founder Tom Gegax asked me to write a business book with him.

First would come The Big Book of Small Business. Next would be Sixty Seconds: One Moment Changes Everything, a collection of profound, inspiring stories from well-known people. And finally, a third book, the most challenging—and most rewarding—of the three, which I hope will be published in 2010.

sixty-seconds-coverIronically, the books were to come in reverse order of their initial foray into my consciousness. The first would be most technically demanding, the second would expand my wisdom, and the third would be the culmination of all that I had learned.

Seven years have passed since I first received my trilogy “assignment,” and all has unfolded as I saw that it would. I am now gaining clarity about the next phase of my life—getting out in the world and meeting people face to face through speaking engagements instead of sitting home alone typing on my laptop.

Fulfilling my destiny is humbling work. Although I have written every word of these three books, I feel as if a power much greater then me has been working through me to bring this wisdom into the world. I was simply chosen to be the instrument, for which I am grateful. Wherever destiny leads me next, I will be honored to go.

Phil’s eBook, The Logic of Living a Spiritual Life: Supporting a Life of Faith Through Logic and Reason, is now available for 99 cents.

Order it at GodIsLogical.com.

In this eBook, you’ll find answers to questions like:
• What is the cornerstone of a spiritual life, and why?
• What is the secret to liberating yourself from other people’s judgments and expectations?
• How do you reconcile the “free will vs. Divine Will” conundrum?
• Why is there an exception to “Everything happens for a reason”?

Those who worship logic instead of God are only half right. Not only is it logical to believe in God and to live a faith-based life, the existence of a loving, benevolent God that governs all creation is perhaps the only systematic worldview that explains every aspect of life.

SiSe_fullcover_final.inddPhil is also the author of Sixty Seconds: One Moment Changes Everything, a collection of 45 inspiring, life-changing stories from prominent authors and thought leaders he interviewed. The roster of storytellers includes Wayne Dyer, Deepak Chopra, Neale Donald Walsch, Caroline Myss, Larry Dossey, Rachel Naomi Remen, Bernie Siegel, Dean Ornish, and Christiane Northrup. Sixty Seconds has been translated into four languages: Italian, German, Spanish, and Portuguese. Reading this book is like spending a few minutes face to face with each of the contributors and listening to their personal stories.

Hey Phil, I love this post! It’s so much fun to read about other people’s experiences, especially when they are so strikingly similar to my own. There is no better feeling in the world than learning your life’s purpose. To feel God’s hand on your shoulder walking you step by step down the path he has set for you is humbling and honoring, but most of all it’s just plain JOYOUS!

It’s just so amazing when you know what you are supposed to do … but you have absolutely no idea how you will do it … but God does! He shows you the way … you follow … and it happens! Then you wait for your next assignement! It’s a high like no other.

  2. Phil Bolsta Says:

Well stated, Kim. I’ve had people challenge me by claiming that there is no such thing as a calling. All I can offer back is, “If you understand, no explanation is necessary. If you don’t understand, no explanation is possible.”

  3. Kim Says:

So true. Sadly I believe there are many people who go thru life never knowing what their true purpose is. I can see how that would happen and how frustrating it must be to feel that you’ve never been given any guidance from the Universe. But truly, you just need to ask … be quiet and listen … and pay attention to the clues you receive along the way

  4. Adela Says:

Phil and Kim… I want to thank both of you for sharing your thoughts. I, myself don’t know what is my true purpose in life and I don’t understand. I need help and prayers. Still, Thank you for touching my life today. I will try to be quiet and listen. And I guess, this is the clue that I need to pay attention – no explanation is possible. I am now a fan of this blog/ post. All the Best for Year 2009.

  5. Phil Bolsta Says:

Be patient, Adela. It takes time to absorb new ideas, to integrate them into your perspective and consciousness, and most importantly, to reflect them in your relationships with God and with others.

The ocean may be willing to pour itself into a cup, but the
cup can only hold its own capacity.

You might find my two posts on affirmations helpful. Affirmations helped me a great deal. Search my blog for “Affirmations” or look for those two posts under the category called MY MOST POPULAR POSTS.

Best of luck, my friend. I hope to see you back again soon!
