Which Came First, Your Reality or Your Attitude?

law-pf-attraction-keyThe law of attraction states that whatever you turn your attention to grows. Why? Where attention goes, energy flows. And it is a fundamental law of physics that like energy attracts like energy. Therefore, whatever you think about, you get more of.

The state of your reality, then, is a reflection of your state of mind, which is determined by the quality of your thoughts.

The urgency implicit in this realization cannot be overstated. If you do not control your thoughts, they will control you.

You may believe that the world is menacing and chaotic, that no one can be trusted, that life is an endless series of bad breaks and hard knocks. After all, rare is the person who has not been bullied at school, fired from a job, or felt rejected and even humiliated by a member of the opposite sex.

Or, you may trust that the universe is benevolent and orderly, that most people are compassionate and good-hearted, that every day offers countless opportunities to celebrate life and extend kindness to others.

Each of these outlooks will attract the people, situations, and events that reinforce the worldview of the person doing the attracting.

What’s more, each occurrence will strengthen that person’s beliefs, thereby providing even more “proof” that the way they perceive the world is the way the world actually is.

Their core beliefs will always be perpetuated because people tend to “see” only what they believe and are comfortable with.

Indeed, when two people with opposing viewpoints witness the same event, they will interpret it in opposite ways to make it fit their preconceived notions.

Who you are and how you see the world determines what you attract. Maintain a loving, positive attitude, and you will act as a magnet to draw loving, positive people and experiences into your life.

The same principle applies to negative mindsets. Throw mental daggers at your boss and you will continue to be the target of his fault-finding missions, never imagining for a moment that you are contributing mightily to your own misery.

This universal law is at work in your own life whether or not you are conscious of it. Every thought, every choice, has consequences.

Hence the aphorism, “God helps those who help themselves.” Your thoughts are like paving stones, marking a path into a future of your own making.

A loving person lives in a loving world. A hostile person lives in a hostile world. Everyone you meet is your mirror.

Phil’s eBook, The Logic of Living a Spiritual Life: Supporting a Life of Faith Through Logic and Reason, is now available for 99 cents.

Order it at GodIsLogical.com.

In this eBook, you’ll find answers to questions like:
• What is the cornerstone of a spiritual life, and why?
• What is the secret to liberating yourself from other people’s judgments and expectations?
• How do you reconcile the “free will vs. Divine Will” conundrum?
• Why is there an exception to “Everything happens for a reason”?

Those who worship logic instead of God are only half right. Not only is it logical to believe in God and to live a faith-based life, the existence of a loving, benevolent God that governs all creation is perhaps the only systematic worldview that explains every aspect of life.

SiSe_fullcover_final.inddPhil is also the author of Sixty Seconds: One Moment Changes Everything, a collection of 45 inspiring, life-changing stories from prominent authors and thought leaders he interviewed. The roster of storytellers includes Wayne Dyer, Deepak Chopra, Neale Donald Walsch, Caroline Myss, Larry Dossey, Rachel Naomi Remen, Bernie Siegel, Dean Ornish, and Christiane Northrup. Sixty Seconds has been translated into four languages: Italian, German, Spanish, and Portuguese. 2. Phil Bolsta Says:

Yes, the challenge is in remembering that i the heat of the moment!

  3. Deb Reilly Says:

    It’s all about attitude.

  4. Phil Bolsta Says:

    You got that right, Deb!

  5. Tony Says:

Isn’t that the truth!!! We are the creators of our own lives… How wonderful! How sad?

  6. Phil Bolsta Says:

Yes, everyone is a self-made person but only the successful admit it! I’ve always liked that anonymous quote! Thanks, Tony!

  7. Valerie Newkirk Says:

So THAT’s how I got such a wonderful husband!

  8. Phil Bolsta Says:

    Bingo!

  9. Michael Galligan Says:

Hi Phil. I wonder how much of this is natural and how much can be learned. As an educator, I see these qualities (both positive and negative outlooks) in children all the time. I struggle to find ways to consistently and successfully steer those who are negative towards a brighter future.

  10. Phil Bolsta Says:

WIthout question, it can be learned, Michael. The trouble is, there’s no “one size fits all” solution. Different people respond in different ways to different approaches. Lots of time, people in tough situations feel so justified in their negative attitudes that they have almost a “How dare you tell me my pain and suffering is a gift?” attitude. Yes, that notion seems laughable and even insulting when considered on a purely human scale. Recognizing that something else, something larger is going on takes wisdom, maturity and faith. And none of those can be forced. All we can do is plant seeds and try to water them occasionally with hope, love and compassion. Just because you can’t see any evidence that those seeds have sprouted doesn’t mean they’re not germinating or that they won’t sprout some day, some month, some year down the road. And when they do, only heaven will see the connection between your heart and theirs.

  11. TheEducatedEntrepreneur Says:

Tis True and very well put. I do think that certain things need to happen in a person’s life before they naturally realize this truth. It can’t be forced.

  12. Phil Bolsta Says:

Agreed. Here’s another post I wrote that I think you’ll enjoy:

  13. perfectdecalibration Says:

wonderful. great post. I love the movie The Secret: The Law of Attraction which elaborates a lot on this.

  14. Phil Bolsta Says:

Glad you enjoyed the post, perfectcalibration! By the way, my book, “Sixty Seconds” was published by the same team that published “The Secret.” In fact, my editors were so busy when “The Secret” took off that they pretty much left me alone while I was writing my book. Ha! They’re great people to work with and everything turned out terrific!

  15. TheIntentionalSage Says:

What if the world were different? What if the world were a place where everybody was happy? What if the world were a place where everything (animals and plant life included) was at peace? What if we, as humans, lived harmoniously with our surroundings? What if the purpose of life was to be joyful – all the time? The intention of this blog is to provide examples of answers to these questions.

We are all co-creators of the future.

Adhering to this premise, all of the posts that can be found at “Imagine Into Being” are intended to co-create the future. These “imaginings” are wonderful additions to the possibilities of what is to happen in the future. Every thought ever created is part of a grander collection of thoughts. The more times a thought is believed and energy it garners (by way of more and more people believing it), the more likely it is that this thought is going to occur. This is the perfect reason for this blog.

The world is aching for more positive and intentional thoughts to be added to the collection. This blog seeks to do that by contributing a number of intentional and very different possibilities for the world.

    With Love and Gratitude,

    The Intentional Sage

  16. Phil Bolsta Says:

The more people who try to make a positive difference in the world, the better, TheIntentionalSage!
