Neal E. Boyd Joins the Paul Potts Club

Neal E. Boyd

Like Paul Potts, Neal E. Boyd was in his thirties, an overweight everyman working a nondescript job and living a rather unremarkable life. Then, like Paul in 2007, Neal in 2008 walked out on stage to audition on his nation’s biggest talent show and began to sing. Boy, did he (they) ever! Both Paul and Neal blew the judges and audience away with Nessun Dorma, the opera aria popularized by Luciano Pavarotti‘s performance at the 1990 FIFA World Cup in Italy.

Paul Potts

Like Paul, it wasn’t just Neal’s vocal skill that made him special. It was his passion and emotion and raw vulnerability that touched everyone’s heart. Both men put themselves on the line in front of an audience of millions not simply because they wanted to but because they had to if they wanted to remain true to themselves and fulfill the destiny they felt called to pursue.  One way or another, those ninety seconds on stage would determine the course of the rest of their lives.

Their bravery paid off. Big time. Paul won the 2007 Britain’s Got Talent and Neal triumphed in the 2008 America’s Got Talent. Today, they sing opera all over the world and are living the lives of their dreams! May every one of us find the courage to listen to that still small voice within us that urges us to learn, to grow, to push through our fear, to do hard things and to risk it all when destiny comes calling.

As a bonus, here is Neal singing Somewhere later on in the competition. He dedicated it to his grandmother, who watched the video of his audition and then died the next day.

And here is the announcement of the grand prize winner of America’s Got Talent.

Nessun dorma! Nessun dorma!
Tu pure, o, Principessa,
nella tua fredda stanza,
guardi le stelle
che tremano d’amore
e di speranza.
Ma il mio mistero è chiuso in me,
il nome mio nessun saprà!
No, no, sulla tua bocca lo dirò
quando la luce splenderà!
Ed il mio bacio scioglierà il silenzio
che ti fa mia!
(Il nome suo nessun saprà!…
e noi dovrem, ahime, morir!)
Dilegua, o notte!

Nobody shall sleep!…
Nobody shall sleep!
Even you, o Princess,
in your cold room,
watch the stars,
that tremble with love and with hope.
But my secret is hidden within me,
my name no one shall know…
On your mouth I will tell it when the light shines.
And my kiss will dissolve the silence that makes you mine!…
(No one will know his name and we must, alas, die.)
Vanish, o night!
Set, stars! Set, stars!
At dawn, I will win! I will win! I will win!

In this eBook, you’ll find answers to questions like:
• What is the cornerstone of a spiritual life, and why?
• What is the secret to liberating yourself from other people’s judgments and expectations?
• How do you reconcile the “free will vs. Divine Will” conundrum?
• Why is there an exception to “Everything happens for a reason”?

Those who worship logic instead of God are only half right. Not only is it logical to believe in God and to live a faith-based life, the existence of a loving, benevolent God that governs all creation is perhaps the only systematic worldview that explains every aspect of life.

SiSe_fullcover_final.inddPhil is also the author of Sixty Seconds: One Moment Changes Everything, a collection of 45 inspiring, life-changing stories from prominent authors and thought leaders he interviewed. The roster of storytellers includes Wayne Dyer, Deepak Chopra, Neale Donald Walsch, Caroline Myss, Larry Dossey, Rachel Naomi Remen, Bernie Siegel, Dean Ornish, and Christiane Northrup. Sixty Seconds has been translated into four languages: Italian, German, Spanish, and Portuguese.
