What If Everything You Believe Is Wrong?

Drilling down to the essence of what you believe—with all the honesty and courage you can muster—and questioning every idea you have about God, is the key to unlocking the front door to your spiritual mansion.

I tore myself away from the safe comfort of certainties through my love for truth; and truth rewarded me.
Simone de Beauvoir

Even if you emerge with your original belief system intact, your effort will have been worthwhile. For you will now believe what you believe through conscious choice rather than unconscious acceptance.

You begin to live more consciously when you stop assuming that what you believe is unquestionably the way things really are.

A belief system is nothing more than a thought that you thought over and over again.
Wayne Dyer

Where to begin? It does not matter—just start taking steps and keep moving. Each author, each speaker, each fellow traveler you bump into will refer you to other publications, other seminars, other methodologies. Hold on to the concepts that resonate with you. Set aside the rest.

Wherever you are is the entry point.
Kabir

Do not expect shortcuts. You will not become a self-realized master, melting into oneness with God, overnight. Indeed, your first exposure to these timeless spiritual principles may uproot your belief system and leave you reeling from information overload.

Looking up gives light, although at first it makes you dizzy.
Rumi

Pace yourself. It takes time to absorb new ideas, to integrate them into your perspective and consciousness, and most importantly, to reflect them in your relationships with God and with others.

A word of caution: Learning these principles is not the same as living them. Do not allow yourself to become so enamored with these concepts that you downplay the need to actually put them into practice.

It is so fatally easy to confuse an aesthetic appreciation of the spiritual life with the life itself—to dream that you have waked, washed, and dressed and then to find yourself still in bed.
C. S. Lewis

Phil’s eBook, The Logic of Living a Spiritual Life: Supporting a Life of Faith Through Logic and Reason, is now available for 99 cents.

Order it at GodIsLogical.com.

In this eBook, you’ll find answers to questions like:
• What is the cornerstone of a spiritual life, and why?
• What is the secret to liberating yourself from other people’s judgments and expectations?
• How do you reconcile the “free will vs. Divine Will” conundrum?
• Why is there an exception to “Everything happens for a reason”?

Those who worship logic instead of God are only half right. Not only is it logical to believe in God and to live a faith-based life, the existence of a loving, benevolent God that governs all creation is perhaps the only systematic worldview that explains every aspect of life.

sixty-seconds-coverPhil is also the author of Sixty Seconds: One Moment Changes Everything, a collection of 45 inspiring, life-changing stories from prominent authors and thought leaders he interviewed. The roster of storytellers includes Wayne Dyer, Deepak Chopra, Neale Donald Walsch, Caroline Myss, Larry Dossey, Rachel Naomi Remen, Bernie Siegel, Dean Ornish, and Christiane Northrup. Sixty Seconds has been translated into four languages: Italian, German, Spanish, and Portuguese. Hi Phil-thank you for the wonderful post. I love the quotes you pulled to make your point! I think most people get stuck in the part where we actually need to take action… I know I do. I read a really good book recently that really helped me. It’s by a man named Andy Feld and it’s called “Wake Up! Your Life is Calling!” Just wanted to share. I look forward to checking in again!

  2. Phil Bolsta Says:

Glad you found the post meaningful, Kim.

Isn’t the Internet cool? Andy Feld, the author of the book you just mentioned, left a comment right after you did! Here’s a link to his book, “Wake Up, Your Life Is Calling!”

  3. Andy Feld Says:

Kim, others believe just lots of action will create desired results, but in reality there is much more to it. We manifest our dreams and desires by lining up our thoughts, emotions, and spoken words with our actions. If there is a disconnect anywhere along this line manifestation becomes questionable. Yes, it requires self-dscipline and practice, but the results are sensational!

  4. Phil Bolsta Says:

Hey, Andy, that’s very nice of you to drop by and leave a comment right after your book was mentioned. Thanks for your insights!
