A Good Day

Brother David Steindl-Rast (photograph by Jim Nichols)

This five-minute video is narrated by Brother David Steindl-Rast, an Austrian-American Roman Catholic theologian and Benedictine monk. A widely respected advocate of interfaith dialogue, Steindl-Rast is a thought leader on topics such as gratitude, positive psychology and the relationship between spirituality and science.

This short video is a compelling reminder to appreciate all the blessings that each day brings and that we so easily take for granted. It begins:

You think this is just another day in your life. It’s not just another day. It’s the one day that is given to you today.

So simple, yet so powerful.

May you greet each day with fresh eyes, fresh appreciation and a fresh start.

Phil’s eBook, The Logic of Living a Spiritual Life: Supporting a Life of Faith Through Logic and Reason, is now available for 99 cents.

Order it at GodIsLogical.com.

In this eBook, you’ll find answers to questions like:
• What is the cornerstone of a spiritual life, and why?
• What is the secret to liberating yourself from other people’s judgments and expectations?
• How do you reconcile the “free will vs. Divine Will” conundrum?
• Why is there an exception to “Everything happens for a reason”?

Those who worship logic instead of God are only half right. Not only is it logical to believe in God and to live a faith-based life, the existence of a loving, benevolent God that governs all creation is perhaps the only systematic worldview that explains every aspect of life.

sixty-seconds-coverPhil is also the author of Sixty Seconds: One Moment Changes Everything, a collection of 45 inspiring, life-changing stories from prominent authors and thought leaders he interviewed. The roster of storytellers includes Wayne Dyer, Deepak Chopra, Neale Donald Walsch, Caroline Myss, Larry Dossey, Rachel Naomi Remen, Bernie Siegel, Dean Ornish, and Christiane Northrup. Sixty Seconds has been translated into four languages: Italian, German, Spanish, and Portuguese. Reading this book is like spending a few minutes face to face with each of the contributors and listening to their personal stories.

  1. ArrVee Says:

being into photography, I try to develop an eye for interesting photographs, subconsciously scanning the environment for such opportunities as a way of exercising the “eye”. When I come across a potentially interesting scene, I would pause mentally to imagine how I would take that picture, and how it would turn out as a photograph, and if I have my camera, would take the picture. As I don’t have my camera with me most of the time, I realized that I don’t need the camera to enjoy the scene – just being aware of the unique scenes that continuously unfold around me, and then to imagine the beauty that I can bring out in a scene by framing it properly, makes me appreciate the scene more, and most of these involve ordinary objects or people.

And since a photograph needs to tell a story, you are always looking for connections around it to create the context, maybe as a set of photographs. Even bad weather makes one look around, because it presents very interesting and dramatic scenes.

This is better than walking around insulated against the world in your personal cocoon of an iPod, or even a BlackBerry.

  2. Phil Bolsta Says:

Yep, most of us are walking around in one kind of cocoon or another, ArrVee. Trouble is, most of us don’t realize it.

  3. Angelina Says:

  5. mel Says:

    Mr. Phil Bolsta,

I always thank God for each day of my life. For giving me another day to live, laugh and love, to appreaciate all the blessings He had given me, and for letting me serve and worship Him for another wonderful day.

  6. Phil Bolsta Says:

That’s the way to live, mel! Glad to hear it!

  7. Thea Pollock Says:

Brother David has a wonderful, vioce, just listing to him helped me relax.

“I expect to pass through life but once. If therefore, there be any kindness I can show, or any good thing I can do to any fellow being, let me do it now, and not defer or neglect it, as I shall not pass this way again. ” William Penn/Quaker

    In Christ, Thea Pollock

  8. Phil Bolsta Says:

I’m glad you enjoyed it, Thea! Relaxing is good!
