We Are All Flawed, We Are All Beautiful

Quick, what are the first words that come to mind when I ask you to measure your value as a human being? Do those words describe positive or negative traits? Chances are you’re being too hard on yourself.

I just heard former NFL quarterback Trent Dilfer on the radio saying that when he looks back on his 14-year career, all he thinks of are his mistakes and failures, that he doesn’t even think about the big games he won. This is from a guy who won the Super Bowl! He said that for hyper-competitive athletes, heartbreaking losses have a hundred times the impact that great wins do.

Maybe I’m wired funny, but I am relentlessly positive and view my many failures as lessons in need of learning. I certainly don’t deny my flaws; in fact, I’m more keenly aware of them now than I ever was. It’s just that I don’t want to waste one minute of this precious life feeling down or being in a bad mood. (I’m talking about a typical, uneventful day here, not a day in which something tragic occurs.)

If you’d like to switch gears and become a more positive thinker, affirmations are a great way to help you get there. (Click here to read my post on affirmations.)

Don’t spend another day thinking that you are anything less than a worthy, valuable human being.  If you could gaze into a magical mirror that reflected back your true essence, you would be awed by the pure, radiant beauty of your soul.

Measure yourself by your best moments, not by your worst. We are too prone to judge ourselves by our moments of despondency and depression.
Robert Johnson

Phil’s eBook, The Logic of Living a Spiritual Life: Supporting a Life of Faith Through Logic and Reason, is now available for 99 cents.

Order it at GodIsLogical.com.

In this eBook, you’ll find answers to questions like:
• What is the cornerstone of a spiritual life, and why?
• What is the secret to liberating yourself from other people’s judgments and expectations?
• How do you reconcile the “free will vs. Divine Will” conundrum?
• Why is there an exception to “Everything happens for a reason”?

Those who worship logic instead of God are only half right. Not only is it logical to believe in God and to live a faith-based life, the existence of a loving, benevolent God that governs all creation is perhaps the only systematic worldview that explains every aspect of life.

sixty-seconds-coverPhil is also the author of Sixty Seconds: One Moment Changes Everything, a collection of 45 inspiring, life-changing stories from prominent authors and thought leaders he interviewed. The roster of storytellers includes Wayne Dyer, Deepak Chopra, Neale Donald Walsch, Caroline Myss, Larry Dossey, Rachel Naomi Remen, Bernie Siegel, Dean Ornish, and Christiane Northrup. Sixty Seconds has been translated into four languages: Italian, German, Spanish, and Portuguese. 1. ArrVee Says:

we could view our flaws as “handicaps” assigned to us to equal out the “race” among everyone. These could have been placed there to make the race more interesting, to see if you can make your positive traits prevail. I guess the trick is to figure out what we are good at, then concentrate on those things. Since it is easier to give this advise to others than to take it, we can take a cue from what others consistently say about us, if we cannot do it for ourselves.

  2. Phil Bolsta Says:

As Robert Burns so famously wrote, ArrVee,

O would some power, the gift to give us,
To see ourselves as others see us!
