Is Life Unfair? Yes. Is Life Fair? Yes.

It is true that life is not fair. It is also true that it is. It all depends on whose eyes you are looking through. Human justice can look very different than divine justice.

Expecting the world to treat you fairly because you are a good person is a little like expecting a bull not to attack you because you are a vegetarian.
Dennis Wholey

When life seems as arbitrary as a coin flip, remember that even if you cannot make heads or tails out of what is in front of you, your job is to search for the golden nugget of divine wisdom that always lies just beneath the details.

Some of you say, “Joy is greater than sorrow,” and others say, “Nay, sorrow is the greater.”
But I say unto you, they are inseparable.
Together they come, and when one sits alone with you at your board, remember that the other is asleep upon your bed.

Kahlil Gibran

How we feel about a challenge depends completely on how we choose to look at it. We can call upon the best in us, or let it get the best of us.

Life is not fair, but life is not fair for everyone. That makes life fair.

Phil’s eBook, The Logic of Living a Spiritual Life: Supporting a Life of Faith Through Logic and Reason, is now available for 99 cents.

Order it at GodIsLogical.com.

In this eBook, you’ll find answers to questions like:
• What is the cornerstone of a spiritual life, and why?
• What is the secret to liberating yourself from other people’s judgments and expectations?
• How do you reconcile the “free will vs. Divine Will” conundrum?
• Why is there an exception to “Everything happens for a reason”?

Those who worship logic instead of God are only half right. Not only is it logical to believe in God and to live a faith-based life, the existence of a loving, benevolent God that governs all creation is perhaps the only systematic worldview that explains every aspect of life.

sixty-seconds-coverPhil is also the author of Sixty Seconds: One Moment Changes Everything, a collection of 45 inspiring, life-changing stories from prominent authors and thought leaders he interviewed. The roster of storytellers includes Wayne Dyer, Deepak Chopra, Neale Donald Walsch, Caroline Myss, Larry Dossey, Rachel Naomi Remen, Bernie Siegel, Dean Ornish, and Christiane Northrup. Sixty Seconds has been translated into four languages: Italian, German, Spanish, and Portuguese. Reading this book is like spending a few minutes face to face with each of the contributors and listening to their personal stories.

  1. ArrVee Says:

Life may not be fair. But the AfterLife is much more than fair.

  2. Phil Bolsta Says:

    True that, ArrVee!

  3. Tulikemanya Says:

life is fair. sometimes u think u r the only person facing a problem but u r never elone. we all face challenges in life… what we should bare in mind is that its temporary. we will suffer but not forever.

  4. Phil Bolsta Says:

Good point, Tulikemanya. In the midst of suffering, it’s easy to lose sight of the truth that this too shall pass.

  5. Tulikemanya Says:

Morning Phil. i think we people should learn to accept life and really just face it.

  6. Phil Bolsta Says:

True, but facing life without understanding the deeper meaning of what is happening can lead to disillusionment and depression. I wrote entire chapters on adversity and suffering in my book, “Through God’s Eyes: Finding Peace and Purpose in a Troubled World” (http://GodsEyesBook.com) to help people find meaning and purpose even in the midst of negative experiences.
