Sit Down In the Fire

The step-by-step transformation from ignorance to cosmic consciousness is vividly portrayed in the blockbuster movie, The Matrix. In the beginning, Neo, the central character, is clueless that his world is an elaborate fabrication. Exposed to the truth, he continues to resist until the existence of a different reality can no longer be ignored. Over time, he wraps his mind around the concept until it is fully integrated into his consciousness. Finally, as his life hangs in the balance, he experiences an epiphany and becomes one with the cosmos.

If your knowledge of fire has been turned to certainty by words alone, then seek to be cooked by the fire itself. Don’t abide in borrowed certainty. There is no real certainty until you burn; if you wish for this, sit down in the fire.

Neo’s journey—fictional, yes, but symbolic of great truths—demonstrates that a path relying solely on research, rationality, and reflection has its limits.

Reality divided by reason always leaves a remainder. After everything has been said about the universe, after the entire world has been transformed on the basis of scientific knowledge into a hierarchical structure of ever-widening systems, we are still left with a profound sense of mystery. . . . This luminous experience of the impenetrable mystery is common to all the scientists, philosophers, and mystics of the highest rank. The scientist calls it the mystery of Nature. The philosopher calls it the mystery of Being. The mystic calls it the mystery of the Spirit.
Haridas Chaudhuri

Indeed, the mind is incapable of leading us to God. While we may intellectually accept the existence of God as an idea, this idea is like all ideas: a detached mental construct unable to satisfy our deep longing for love and connection.

Faith is a sounder guide than reason. Reason can go only so far, but faith has no limits.
Blaise Pascal

Although logic and reason are indispensable pillars of a civilized life, eventually you must be willing to leap beyond your intellect into the arms of faith.

Faith is a belief in things that your senses have not experienced and your mind does not understand, but you have touched them in other ways and have accepted them.
Peace Pilgrim

In this eBook, you’ll find answers to questions like:
• What is the cornerstone of a spiritual life, and why?
• What is the secret to liberating yourself from other people’s judgments and expectations?
• How do you reconcile the “free will vs. Divine Will” conundrum?
• Why is there an exception to “Everything happens for a reason”?

Those who worship logic instead of God are only half right. Not only is it logical to believe in God and to live a faith-based life, the existence of a loving, benevolent God that governs all creation is perhaps the only systematic worldview that explains every aspect of life.

sixty-seconds-coverPhil is also the author of Sixty Seconds: One Moment Changes Everything, a collection of 45 inspiring, life-changing stories from prominent authors and thought leaders he interviewed. The roster of storytellers includes Wayne Dyer, Deepak Chopra, Neale Donald Walsch, Caroline Myss, Larry Dossey, Rachel Naomi Remen, Bernie Siegel, Dean Ornish, and Christiane Northrup. Sixty Seconds has been translated into four languages: Italian, German, Spanish, and Portuguese. Reading this book is like spending a few minutes face to face with each of the contributors and listening to their personal stories.

  1. ArrVee Says:

taking the red pill can be painful and disturbing, but you see “how deep the rabbithole goes”, and the truth will set you free.

  2. Phil Bolsta Says:

Well stated, ArrVee. Living a life of denial and deliberate ignorance only delays and intensifies the pain. Inevitably, you end up dealing with what you don’t want to deal with—only 100 times worse.
