If you lean more toward self-loathing than self-love, consider how you feel about your friends. You love them even though they, like you, are imperfect, have hurt others, and regret past actions. If you can unconditionally love your friends despite their flaws, you can learn to extend the same kindness toward yourself.
You yourself, as much as anybody in the entire universe, deserve your love and affection.
Love your flaws, your insecurities, your negative thoughts and feelings, and one day soon you may be startled to see a more positive and confident you smiling back in the mirror.
Love all of what you call your “imperfections.” You won’t change them by denying or hating them. You change them by loving them. As you love your negative feelings they can evolve into their positive expressions. Love all your thoughts, even those that are limited or fearful. Think of them as small children needing your love and assurance.
Try to see yourself as God sees you and treat yourself as God treats you—with love, compassion, and endless patience.
Love is what we were born with. Fear is what we have learned here.
Love yourself and you naturally begin loving others, God, and life itself in ways that someone with low self-esteem cannot begin to comprehend.
Self-love is not opposed to the love of other people. You cannot really love yourself and really do yourself a favor without doing other people a favor, and vice versa.
