Happy Birthday, Erin!

Erin on her fourth birthday at Chuck E. Cheese

June 2 is a magical day for me. On this day, thirty-one years ago, my daughter Erin popped out into the world. Whatever I am today, whatever I will be, is because she has graced my life with more love and beauty than I ever dreamed possible. Erin is the greatest gift I could ever give to the world, and it is I who have been showered with blessings in return.

One year ago today, I wrote a post about our tradition of writing an annual birthday letter. There are now thirty-one letters in the Daddy and Erin archives and each one is a treasured keepsake. I would like nothing more than to see other parents start this wonderful tradition with their kids. It’s never too late to create cherished memories!

Happy Birthday, Erin! Thank you for honoring me with the gift of being your dad.

Phil’s eBook, The Logic of Living a Spiritual Life: Supporting a Life of Faith Through Logic and Reason, is now available for 99 cents.

Order it at GodIsLogical.com.

In this eBook, you’ll find answers to questions like:
• What is the cornerstone of a spiritual life, and why?
• What is the secret to liberating yourself from other people’s judgments and expectations?
• How do you reconcile the “free will vs. Divine Will” conundrum?
• Why is there an exception to “Everything happens for a reason”?

Those who worship logic instead of God are only half right. Not only is it logical to believe in God and to live a faith-based life, the existence of a loving, benevolent God that governs all creation is perhaps the only systematic worldview that explains every aspect of life.

sixty-seconds-coverPhil is also the author of Sixty Seconds: One Moment Changes Everything, a collection of 45 inspiring, life-changing stories from prominent authors and thought leaders he interviewed. The roster of storytellers includes Wayne Dyer, Deepak Chopra, Neale Donald Walsch, Caroline Myss, Larry Dossey, Rachel Naomi Remen, Bernie Siegel, Dean Ornish, and Christiane Northrup. Sixty Seconds has been translated into four languages: Italian, German, Spanish, and Portuguese. Reading this book is like spending a few minutes face to face with each of the contributors and listening to their personal stories.

  1. John C. A. Manley | MetaphysicalSF.com Says:

Archiving the birthday messages is a great idea. I’m sure our children will take more meaning from them when they are 30 then when they are three.

  2. Phil Bolsta Says:

Absolutely, John. Before the age of five or six, the letters are for the sake of posterity and for looking back in the years to come.

  3. Kim Wencl Says:

Our children are a wonderful blessing. We assume as parents that we are the teachers … however, our children teach us more about how to live than we realize.

  4. Phil Bolsta Says:

Very true, Kim. And perhaps more important than teaching us, our children inspire us!

  5. Erin Says:

Thank you for your beautiful words Dad and for being the best Dad ever! I love you!

  6. Phil Bolsta Says:

Thanks, honey the bear. I love you so!

  7. mel Says:

Up to now, I still keep the birthday cards and letters given to me, especially from my loved ones such as my parents and grandparents.

My late paternal grandfather’s last letter to me before he died is the most treasured item in my archive of memorabilia. Whenever I miss him I read his letter thus, I already lost count on how many times I’ve read his letter.

Your daughter, Erin and me share the same birth month and she’s only a year older than me.
Please greet her a belated happy birthday (from a fan of Mr. Phil Bolsta).

  8. Phil Bolsta Says:

I am glad to hear that you find such meaning and joy in your cards and letters, mel. I’m so happy to have my grandfather’s letters too. They keep alive our connection and love.

I am a June birthday too! I will pass along your wishes to Erin!
