Love Songs for Luci

Luci and her beloved, Vladimir

Excited about her impending nuptials, Luci, the daughter of one of my dearest friends, posted this request on Facebook:

Songs about breaking up, great. Songs about falling in love, couldn’t live without ’em. But please someone suggest me a song that represents my depth of emotion, my happiness and safety and belief that the strength of my relationship is unflappable, a song that represents the fact we embrace turmoil and come out the other side together, a song that celebrates sturdiness not dizziness. Anyone?

Sara Evans

My first two thoughts were: John Berry‘s I Give My Heart and Sara EvansNo Place That Far. Both these songs move me deeply every time I listen to them. Berry’s Faithfully also expresses the depth of devotion that Luci feels for her beloved.

John Berry

NOTE: Some of these songs apparently don’t have official videos but I posted what I could find.

So what songs would you suggest, given Luci’s criteria? I’d like to add more songs to this post, not only for Luci and Vladimir but for all young couples who, hand in hand, are happily embarking on a new life together!

JOHN BERRY: I GIVE MY HEART

SARA EVANS: NO PLACE THAT FAR

JOHN BERRY: FAITHFULLY

Of course, no collection of “lifelong love” songs would be complete without this Collin Raye masterpiece.

COLLIN RAYE: LOVE, ME

Luci herself suggested adding these songs by Ben Folds and Warren Barfield. At your service, Luci!

BEN FOLDS: THE LUCKIEST

WARREN BARFIELD: LOVE IS NOT A FIGHT

Phil’s eBook, The Logic of Living a Spiritual Life: Supporting a Life of Faith Through Logic and Reason, is now available for 99 cents.

Order it at GodIsLogical.com.

In this eBook, you’ll find answers to questions like:
• What is the cornerstone of a spiritual life, and why?
• What is the secret to liberating yourself from other people’s judgments and expectations?
• How do you reconcile the “free will vs. Divine Will” conundrum?
• Why is there an exception to “Everything happens for a reason”?

Those who worship logic instead of God are only half right. Not only is it logical to believe in God and to live a faith-based life, the existence of a loving, benevolent God that governs all creation is perhaps the only systematic worldview that explains every aspect of life.

sixty-seconds-coverPhil is also the author of Sixty Seconds: One Moment Changes Everything, a collection of 45 inspiring, life-changing stories from prominent authors and thought leaders he interviewed. The roster of storytellers includes Wayne Dyer, Deepak Chopra, Neale Donald Walsch, Caroline Myss, Larry Dossey, Rachel Naomi Remen, Bernie Siegel, Dean Ornish, and Christiane Northrup. Sixty Seconds has been translated into four languages: Italian, German, Spanish, and Portuguese. 1. Luci Says:

I thought of one Phil :)

    Ben Folds – The Luckiest

I can’t connect to youtube right now, or I would post a clip of that song. It’s beautiful, though.

I really like the Sara Evans song, and nice clip too. And Faithfully is fantastic too! These are a good start. I want to watch the others but need a faster connection. Will get there though. I really love this blog post and I sent it to Vladimir too!

  2. Phil Bolsta Says:

I’m very glad you like the post, Luci. I’ll add Ben Folds’ song right away!

  3. Felisha Wild Says:

I would add two song to the mix.

The amazing, soulful and beautiful, “True Companion” by Marc Cohn always brings tears to my eyes.

And Johnny Clegg’s “Dela” is a very upbeat song but it really does sum up our search for another.

The translation for “Dela” is “Dela! Dela! Ngiyadela!
    (Content, content I am content)
    When I am with you!
    Dela! Sondela! Mama sondela!
    (Closer, closer, come closer mama)

  4. Phil Bolsta Says:

Thanks for introducing me to these songs, Felisha. I’ll certainly leave them in the Comments section for others to view but in my interpretation, they don’t quite meet Luci’s criteria. My plan is to only post the best of the best.

  5. Harriet Says:

Phil, I’ve sent you the video of “Til The End of Time.” It is, in my opinion, the song that describe life-long caring & devotion. Luci & Vladimir are so lucky to have each other, and share this kind of love.

  6. Phil Bolsta Says:

I’ll check out the video and determine whether it fits Luci’s stringent criteria, Harriet. Thank you!
