Instant Karma

Yesterday, I dialed a phone number (well, I actually cut-and-pasted it into Skype) and was startled to hear Bill’s voice on the other end. I thought I was calling somebody else so it took a few seconds before I regained my equilibrium and told Bill I had called him by mistake. “No problem,” he said cheerfully. I don’t even know Bill very well; he’s my contact for writing newsletter articles for the Minnesota bank he works for. After disconnecting, I realized I had clicked on the wrong e-mail to access the phone number I had wanted; the e-mail message I was looking for was the one below Bill’s. I don’t recall ever making this mistake before.

Last night, a little before 10 PM Minnesota time, my phone rang. When I answered it I heard nothing but background noise of two people horsing around. I figured that whoever it was must have inadvertently called me on his cell phone by sitting on it or some such thing. I waited a bit and then loudly said, “Hello!” A startled man picked up the phone and apologized for accidentally calling me. Who was the culprit? One guess. Yep, it was Bill. He had been goofing around with his son and didn’t realize his cell phone was making a call. I told him it was no problem and that, in fact, since I had accidentally called him that afternoon, he was entitled to accidentally call me that night! We had a good laugh about it.

If that’s not instant karma, I don’t know what is!

Phil’s eBook, The Logic of Living a Spiritual Life: Supporting a Life of Faith Through Logic and Reason, is now available for 99 cents.

In this eBook, you’ll find answers to questions like:
• What is the cornerstone of a spiritual life, and why?
• What is the secret to liberating yourself from other people’s judgments and expectations?
• How do you reconcile the “free will vs. Divine Will” conundrum?
• Why is there an exception to “Everything happens for a reason”?

Those who worship logic instead of God are only half right. Not only is it logical to believe in God and to live a faith-based life, the existence of a loving, benevolent God that governs all creation is perhaps the only systematic worldview that explains every aspect of life.

sixty-seconds-coverPhil is also the author of Sixty Seconds: One Moment Changes Everything, a collection of 45 inspiring, life-changing stories from prominent authors and thought leaders he interviewed. The roster of storytellers includes Wayne Dyer, Deepak Chopra, Neale Donald Walsch, Caroline Myss, Larry Dossey, Rachel Naomi Remen, Bernie Siegel, Dean Ornish, and Christiane Northrup. Sixty Seconds has been translated into four languages: Italian, German, Spanish, and Portuguese. Reading this book is like spending a few minutes face to face with each of the contributors and listening to their personal stories.
