SPRING EQUINOX UPDATE
The Spring Equinox, the moment when day and night are of equal length, arrives on March 20, 2011. It heralds a time when new ideas and innovation are rewarded. Celebrate the return of the light by becoming more of the positive person you know yourself to be. It is a law of physics that light is stronger when it bends. Use the changing angle of the sun at the Equinox to energize your positive thoughts, feelings and prayers, and to take positive steps toward realizing a cherished goal.
Be aware that we are living through a period of extremely dynamic change. The movement of Uranus, the planet of change, into the fiery sign of Aries on March 11, 2011, for the first time since 1935 portends global upheaval to create space to begin again on a higher level.
Uranus in Aries brings circumstances that galvanize people to mobilize and overthrow repressive situations to create greater freedom and independence. This celestial transit has consistently been the backdrop for breakdowns of governments, institutions and businesses to make way for more innovative, socially viable ways of conducting government and commerce. This planetary alignment also supports entrepreneurialism, individualism, creativity and forthright expression of public sentiment. Uranus was last in Aries from 1927 to 1935.
Uranus will be in Aries until 2019. We can expect the unexpected at home and abroad until that time. The Middle East is playing out the collective repressed shadow of humanity. We need to collect this forgotten part of ourselves so that we all become whole. As the voices of the oppressed are finally listened to and integrated, we will see an aura of peace begin to pervade that part of the world and gradually blanket the globe.
Simultaneously, an alignment of expansive Jupiter in Aries and karmic Saturn in Libra on March 28, 2011, will further contest governments’ regulations and the legal system. Expect further challenges to the governmental status quo from the left and from the right.
Additionally, pay special attention to your head under the influence of the powerful planetary placements in the headstrong sign of Aries. Aries rules the head, and under this influence, the head, face and teeth can be more vulnerable than usual. Head injuries, brain function and the way we use our minds will be spotlighted in the coming decade.
Neptune, god of the oceans, enters the water sign of Pisces for the first time since the 1840s on April 4, 2011. Neptune will retrograde back into Aquarius from August 4, 2011 to February 3, 2012, when it will re-enter Pisces and remain there until 2026. This historical planetary passage portends a global focus on water, primarily its availability, purity and ownership of this precious resource. Opportunities abound in storage, purification and discovery of new sources of H2O.
While many are concerned about financial upheaval in the coming years, of far greater concern is the environmental damage done by the last centuries’ expansion of commerce, industry and accumulation of wealth. A reduction in industrial and “wealth-producing” activity would actually support the physical health of planet earth, and there may be karmic reasons for the economic contraction we are currently experiencing.
But the economic contraction is not nearly as threatening as the warning signs from the earth, some of which are Biblical in proportion—destructive tsunamis (the Japanese tsunami occurred literally as I was writing this on March 10, 2011), devastating earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, wildfires, mudslides, avalanches, tornados, droughts and floods. Add to that man’s own physical assaults on Mother Earth, such as an oil rig explosion that gushed millions of gallons of oil into the Gulf of Mexico and the repeated assaults to our planet from heavy use of explosives in war zones across the Middle East and from all forms of drilling and mining. The collapse of a record number of mine shafts is Mother Nature’s way of showing that we are too greatly taxing the natural resources of the earth. They need time to replenish.
Birds dropping from the sky by the thousands, polar bears forlornly floating on icebergs unmoored for the first time in millennia, fish born with male and female genitalia, bees critical to the food chain dying in record numbers, whales beached and stranded on unfamiliar territory, lethal hail storms, and record-breaking, extreme, disruptive and harsh weather patterns are further signs of the spiritual imbalance. The behavior of our natural environment is not happenstance, but a reflection of the polarization and imbalance in our thoughts and a symptom of a greater depletion of spiritual energy and intention. It’s God’s way of giving us a wake-up call. We would be wise to listen.
At the end of the day, clean air and water and a wholesome, healthy food supply are far more precious than paper currency. It would be wise to focus our healing thoughts and prayers on environmental health rather than on economic wealth. All the money in the world will not restore clean waterways or air once they are depleted beyond repair. This depletion will have a far more devastating effect upon the health and well-being of all people and creatures on the planet than will the lack of paper currency, which can easily be replaced by good, old-fashioned communal living and barter systems. Thus, we may be focusing on the wrong problem by worrying about money. We would be better served by focusing on the health of our planet as an extension of the health of our own physical bodies. Health works both ways; the health of the planet supports us, and our healthy thoughts and lifestyles support the planet.
The ancients often said that eclipses carried messages from the heavens to earth. The eclipse cycles since December 21, 2010, have been particularly poignant from an astrological perspective in that they have coincided with highly transformational planetary patterns. The eclipses also have occurred at critical degrees on the zodiac wheel, and the shadows cast have lasted longer than is often the case. A partial eclipse of the sun on June 1, 2011. will reveal new information that will enable us take action in a more enlightened way. Let’s pray that more enlightened action is taken. A total eclipse of the moon on June 15, 2011, will heighten people’s awareness of the interconnectedness of all human beings. People can fight each other for resources or they can work together to enhance the resources that are available. We would be well-served to pray to work together in peace and harmony.
When Jupiter enters Taurus on June 4, 2011, the market will more highly value agricultural land and commodities such as precious metals, raw materials, water and agricultural goods. There will be a pervasive feeling that physical possessions, to the extent that they are portable, sustainable or rich in natural resources, will be more valuable than paper assets. In other words, a piece of gold or a shaft of wheat may be perceived as worth more than a bank balance.
The longest day of the year—Summer Solstice—will arrive on June 21, 2011. Energy is abundant for exploring new ideas and implementing practical solutions.
YOUR PERSONAL ASTROLOGICAL STRATEGIES
FOR THE SPRING SEASON
ARIES (March 21 – April 19)
The conjunction of the sun, moon, Mars and lucky Jupiter in Aries in early April will give you the physical and emotional energy you need to move to the next step in your life. You will have plenty of energy throughout the spring season—perhaps even too much—with so many planets moving through Aries in the spring. Energetic Mars will be in Aries until May 11. Mercury, planet of communications, will be in Aries until May 15. Venus, planet of love, will be in Aries from April 20 to May 15. Lucky Jupiter will be in Aries until June 4. And Uranus, planet of change, which moved into Aries on March 11, 2011, for the first time since 1935, will remain in the Sign of the Ram until 2019. Under the influence of so much planetary energy in the fiery and initiatory sign of Aries, expect the new to take precedence over the old. Even though you may feel pressured to do many things quickly or all at once, and life may consequently feel chaotic, you are moving to a more evolved state of being. If you were born under the Sign of the Ram, your head is your strongest asset. It, along with your face and teeth also are the most vulnerable parts of your body under present planetary influences. Take care of these precious parts of your body and know that you will feel headstrong during the spring season. Your magnetism is intensified under current planetary influences. Many people will be inclined to follow your lead, so ensure that your intentions are positive and prepare yourself to assume a leadership role. Clearly articulate the direction you are going so others can properly follow you. Be open-minded if others question your methods. With karmic Saturn in Libra, there is something to learn from an outside observer.
TAURUS (April 20 – May 20)
When communicative Mercury, loving Venus, and energetic Mars move into Taurus in mid-May, joined by lucky Jupiter in Taurus on June 4, you will suddenly feel as if the spotlight is upon you. You will be the center of many people’s attention, and in this position you will be responsible for mediating the needs and viewpoints of many others. Stay fixed in your own stable center, but simultaneously practice flexibility so you may project the congenial quality so natural to your Venus-ruled personality. The concentration of so much planetary energy in the Sign of the Bull may make some people become intractable during periods of disagreement. But this powerful energy also will influence people to commit to what they truly believe in. Consider your values – and act accordingly. Also consider preparing for public notice by practicing positive thoughts and affirmations. Imagine that someone is watching your thoughts as you go through the day. What would you like them to see? Do you like what you see in yourself? Make changes in alignment with your higher self and your most positive, loving intentions. Pluto in the compatible earth sign of Capricorn will help you reach your goals.
GEMINI (May 21 – June 21)
Make sure to complete important projects and make critical decisions before Mercury, the planet of communications that rules Gemini, turns retrograde from March 30 until April 23. This planetary passage will give you a chance to slow down and reflect upon where you have been in the last three months. You will accomplish quite a lot after Mercury moves in a beneficial direction for your sign in late April and May. Make significant decisions and initiate important projects prior to March 30 or after April 23. A solar eclipse in Gemini on June 1 will enable you to understand old information in a new, more enlightened way. You may find yourself focusing on a subject you were previously unaware of. A lunar eclipse on June 15 will heighten your sympathies for someone you will be able to help. This eclipse will raise everyone’s awareness of the interconnectedness of all human beings. The eclipses will influence you to commune with many people you do not normally communicate with. As you express yourself with these new people, try to focus on issues that are of the highest priority to you. Extraneous communication does not benefit you at this time. Try to understand the higher purpose of your words and your actions from the perspective of your soul – and convey your ideas accordingly. You could feel depleted by actions that take you away from the highest truth. Prepare for erratic behavior from close friends and associates by staying centered in those beliefs and attitudes that are important to you.
CANCER (June 22 – July 22)
A line-up of the Sun, communicative Mercury, loving Venus, and energetic Mars in the compatible earth sign of Taurus in mid-May will give you the sense of security you desire. Seek the company of like-minded friends who give you the experience of a caring community that you have been looking for. The entrance of lucky Jupiter into Taurus on June 4 will strengthen your relationships with the people you are close to. Think about the direction you would like to go in the coming months. The energy of the group of people around you is strong enough to carry you where you want to go. Be clear about where that is. Your sensitive lunar nature also will make you more aware than others of the movements of the season’s Full Moons, so intimately connected with the tides and the movement of water through our bodies. As you see the moon approaching its full phase on March 19, April 17, May 17, and June 15, drink extra water to process the lunar energy. A solar eclipse on June 1 will bring you intuitive clarity from your soul. A lunar eclipse on June 15 will bring a health improvement and a greater flow of energy through your solar plexus. Another solar eclipse on July 1 will reinvigorate your physical body and strengthen your self-confidence. Use this time to uplift yourself and others.
LEO (July 23 – August 22)
A collection of planets in the fixed sign of Taurus in May and June may cause you to encounter people who stubbornly resist your normally exuberant energy. The Sign of the Lion, ruled by the Sun, is also a fixed sign that does not always respond favorably to resistance. Consider any challenges that come your way as growth opportunities. Step back, consider the situation from another person’s point of view, and imagine how you will feel about the situation in a year from now. Many things that seem important in the present moment will seem less significant as time passes. Be patient and allow yourself the gift of time in making important decisions. While it may be tempting to react quickly during a heated moment, you will make your most rational decisions when you give yourself time and space, gain perspective, and allow any inflamed feelings to cool down. This is a time to practice patience, equanimity, and even-mindedness. People also will notice you at this time for a project you have been working on for as long as one year. This is a time of culmination and of bringing past efforts to fruition. You would like to accomplish many goals. It is time to focus on activities that support your highest good, and the highest good of other people. Let go of anything that is not aligned with your higher self and your soul. You will know when something is aligned with with your highest good when your actions flow smoothly toward completion. Obstacles mean that you are on the wrong path. Your highest dreams and desires will be fulfilled when you meditate upon and pray to be guided to right action. Your thoughts and actions are powerful. You will have increased energy after the Spring Equinox, when the days will become noticeably longer and the light of the Sun will become noticeably stronger, strengthening your leonine energy field. The conjunction of your planetary ruler, the Sun, with action-oriented Uranus in Aries on March 21 will inspire you to take a short trip or explore a new subject during the spring season.
VIRGO (August 23 – September 22)
The passage of loving Venus through your opposing sign of Pisces from March 26 to April 20 will bring the qualities of compassion and understanding into focus in your relationships. This influence also will help you meet people with whom you feel compatible and will enable your current relationships to flow smoothly. Mercury retrograde from March 30 to April 23 will enable you to rethink a previous decision and help you take action that is more appropriate to the person you are becoming. When the spiritual planet Neptune enters your opposing sign of Pisces on April 4, you will feel a rush of spiritual energy. This is a time to make significant spiritual progress through meditation, prayer, affirmations, and introspection. The passage of Mercury, Venus, Mars through the compatible earth sign of Taurus in May and June, along with Pluto in the compatible earth sign of Capricorn, will help you feel calm, stable, and centered. You are a perceptive person with an active nervous system. As an earth sign, the passage of so many celestial bodies through compatible earth signs will give you a taste of the relaxation and serenity you long to experience. When the opportunity to experience a calm moment visits you, beware that you don’t revert back to established habit patterns and re-create stressful conditions. All humans are wedded to routines and patterns and have the ability to create circumstances that repeat familiarity even when they know the patterns are not good for them. Try new things, take a break from the past – and breathe deeply while you relax!
LIBRA (September 23 – October 23)
As Karmic Saturn in Libra opposes lucky Jupiter in Aries on March 28, you will reestablish a healthy balance in a relationship where one person has been overly authoritarian and the other has been youthful and irresponsible. Greater equilibrium is coming! The growing light of the Spring Equinox Sun will help you get real in all relationships. You may re-contact someone who has been off your radar screen to regain a lost piece of yourself. This also is a positive time for you to make an impartial and objective opinion heard. While you tend to avoid confrontation, expressing your opinion when you are clear about your position will improve your life and the lives of the people around you. The consequences of being candid will bring you the peace and harmony you have been seeking. The protective influence of spiritual Jupiter in your opposing sign of Aries will enable you to make known your constructive suggestions. People are receptive and ready to listen to you. Relationships with Aries will flourish under the influence of communications-oriented Mercury, loving Venus, and energetic Mars in your opposing sign of Aries until early May. Then, when four planets line up in the Venus-ruled sign of Taurus in mid-May, you will feel drawn to artistic and beautiful undertakings. The Sun, communicative Mercury, loving Venus, and energetic Mars in Taurus will stir your senses and bring out the artist in you. You may use this energy to read or write poetry, decorate your home, spruce up your wardrobe, change your look, cook a sense-pleasing meal, or to bring greater peace and harmony to an important relationship. When lucky Jupiter moves into Taurus on June 4, your aesthetic senses will be further heightened. Use this sensual energy to create something of lasting value in your life.
SCORPIO (October 24 – November 21)
Mars in the compatible water sign of Pisces until April 1 will soften your disposition and bring your passionate feelings to the surface. It is your nature to protect yourself by disguising your deep emotions, which perpetually flow through your consciousness. Find creative ways to express the passion within you. Rewarding creative outlets include dancing, singing, painting, drawing, and even re-decorating or cleaning your home. Physical movement is vital for you to release pent-up energy and feelings. The conjunctions of the Moon with your planetary ruler Pluto on March 26, April 22, May 20, and June 16, will give you the willpower to accomplish a goal you were just about to give up on. The greater flow you experience will help you connect with your powerful soul. You have tremendous resources within you. Use these resources for positive purposes! The passage of four planets into your opposing sign of Taurus in mid-May also will focus your attention upon partnerships. The best question to ask yourself is how to simplify the process of relating to others. How can you peacefully and harmoniously co-exist with the people you care about? Your relationships may have reached a point where a history of complexity may make it difficult if not impossible to relate in an objective way. Try to wipe the slate clean and start anew. Practice patience and forgiveness. Imagine you are the person you are relating to. What would you like to receive? Step back from complicated interpersonal dynamics that drain your energy and focus on relating in ways that build your confidence and that of your partner. The entrance of lucky Jupiter into Taurus from June 4, 2011 to June 11, 2012, will augment the need to streamline dramatic relationship dynamics.
SAGITTARIUS (November 22 – December 21)
The conjunction of loving Venus and lucky Jupiter on May 11 will spark your fondness for romance. You may give flowers to a loved one, write a beautiful poem, or simply share the loving feelings in your heart. When Jupiter moves into Taurus on June 4, you will begin to shift your focus from romance and creativity to material security and acquisitions. Purchases and investments that you make from June 4, 2011 to June 11, 2012, will be with you far into the future. You simultaneously will let go of many things to make way for a new style of life. You are at a point of transition—between what you hoped for and what is realistic, and between all that was true in the past but is no longer viable and that which will be true in the future. This is a good time to think about how many things have changed in your life in the past 12 years and about what direction you would like to go in the next 12 years. Your Jupiter-ruled sign operates in 12-year cycles. You are a forward thinker who is not intimidated by what lies ahead even if it is unknown. Harness the optimistic quality of your nature to move in a positive direction that will enhance your ability to give altruistically in the future.
CAPRICORN (December 22 – January 19)
A planetary opposition between your planetary ruler, Saturn, and lucky Jupiter on March 28, will enable you to take concrete steps to actualize an idea you have been contemplating for as long as 14 years. The line-up of the Sun, communicative Mercury, loving Venus, and energetic Mars in the compatible earth sign of Taurus in mid-May will help you feel mutually supported by and harmoniously aligned with the people you are close to. When lucky Jupiter enters Taurus on June 4, you will feel a greater sense of comfort within your own skin. Sometimes you feel as if you are on the outside looking in. Little do you realize that many people feel the same way and they perceive you as a central person in their lives upon whom they can depend and are willing to follow. Flex your leadership muscles and see how many people respect your vision as a leader. Exercise foresight and caution to earn the greatest respect. Depth-seeking Pluto in Capricorn until 2020 will help you discover your hidden talents. Take advantage of opportunities to experience new things. You will encounter resources you previously did not know you possessed. Within all of the latent energy that is rising to the surface of your awareness, you may also discover feelings or thoughts you would prefer to avoid. Despite this initial impulse to steer clear of your interior depth, you are better off looking objectively and lovingly at all aspects of yourself. The positive view of yourself will dissipate negative feelings and the loving nature of your soul will predominate in your everyday life.
AQUARIUS (January 20 – February 18)
The conjunction of Uranus, your planetary ruler, and the Sun in fiery Aries on March 21 will give you the energy you need to speak up in a situation where you have remained silent. You are a universal teacher of brotherly love and this is the time to show others how to live peacefully, lovingly, and in harmony. You have a lot of positive energy to contribute to this end. The passage of loving Venus through Aquarius until March 26 will help you practice high spiritual principles in your personal and professional relationships. Your example will inspire others to non-judgmentally accept people who are different from themselves. Synthesis of diverse perspectives is important for your forward movement. Loving Venus conjoins your planetary ruler, Uranus, on Earth Day, April 22, making this a fortunate day for you to do something to make your earthly environment more beautiful and hospitable. Plant some flowers or plant a vegetable garden. Choose an environmentally friendly laundry detergent or even pick up some trash you might have otherwise overlooked. You embody the wisdom of group cohesiveness, knowing that if each person makes a small contribution, the entire planet will feel the positive effects. If you aren’t inclined toward earthly projects, express your caring for humanity through spontaneous acts of kindness and compassion. You have a big heart. The time is right to express your positive feelings. The channel is blessed by what flows through it.
PISCES (February 19 – March 20)
The passage of spiritual Neptune into Pisces on April 4 will heighten your feeling of being surrounded by love, light, and peace. Everyone on the planet is going to become more sensitive to the vibrations of loving thoughts and feelings. This is something that you have always experienced. As others join you in this awareness, they too will have a greater sensitivity to the effect of their thoughts, feelings and actions upon others. Greater compassion will eventually blanket the planet, enabling you to unreservedly feel the sense of being at one with others, which is something you have always longed for. More people also will gain access to their intuition under the coming planetary transits. You will set an example and be a teacher to many about how to marry intuition and compassion with practicality and common sense. Meditate upon the balance between these seemingly disparate concepts. We are entering an era of integration between head and heart, masculine and feminine, and pragmatism and compassion. This is your time to shine!
