My Graduation Girl!

The newly minted college graduate and me

Sunday, May 8, 2011, was a big, big day for the best girl ever! My daughter, Erin, graduated from college with a major in Women’s Studies and a minor in Psychology. She had taken a decade off from school after her freshman year and, with the love and support of her husband, Abe (the best son-in-law ever), returned to finish her degree. Congratulations, Erin, on your tremendous accomplishment!

Oh, you’re probably wondering about that green figurine in the photo. Years ago, when Erin was little, she excitedly inserted a quarter in a grocery store gumball-type machine that dispensed little prizes. To her chagrin, out popped a green dog wearing a Rambo-like artillery belt. Erin, quite the pacifist, was appalled. So of course from that day on, Green Combat Dog, as he is affectionately known, has made an appearance during many a birthday, holiday and special occasion. He has shown up buried in a pint of ice cream, covered with whipped cream on a piece of pumpkin pie, and in a myriad of other unexpected hiding places. On Sunday, Green Combat Dog was lovingly placed between two hamburger buns and served to Erin during her reception lunch at my mom’s house. It’s a cherished family tradition!

Congratulations, Erin!

Phil’s eBook, The Logic of Living a Spiritual Life: Supporting a Life of Faith Through Logic and Reason, is now available for 99 cents.

In this eBook, you’ll find answers to questions like:
• What is the cornerstone of a spiritual life, and why?
• What is the secret to liberating yourself from other people’s judgments and expectations?
• How do you reconcile the “free will vs. Divine Will” conundrum?
• Why is there an exception to “Everything happens for a reason”?

Those who worship logic instead of God are only half right. Not only is it logical to believe in God and to live a faith-based life, the existence of a loving, benevolent God that governs all creation is perhaps the only systematic worldview that explains every aspect of life.

sixty-seconds-coverPhil is also the author of Sixty Seconds: One Moment Changes Everything, a collection of 45 inspiring, life-changing stories from prominent authors and thought leaders he interviewed. The roster of storytellers includes Wayne Dyer, Deepak Chopra, Neale Donald Walsch, Caroline Myss, Larry Dossey, Rachel Naomi Remen, Bernie Siegel, Dean Ornish, and Christiane Northrup. Sixty Seconds has been translated into four languages: Italian, German, Spanish, and Portuguese. Reading this book is like spending a few minutes face to face with each of the contributors and listening to their personal stories.

  1. Serena Says:

Congratulations to the new graduate and to her proud and loving father!!! :)

  2. Phil Bolsta Says:

    Thanks, Serena!

  3. M.D. Senseng Jr. Says:

Congratulation Erin! But most of all let me congratulate the father Phil and mother Kate for a job well done. We are not a well-to-do family and to send our only son to one of the top Universities in the Philippines and study with a B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering is not an easy task. The situation may not be the same with you but the feeling as a father may be mutual. When my son graduated eight years ago, there’s no feeling I could describe. I could see that also from your smile.

Congratulation again. I did not see this earlier but it is better to send it now than never.

  4. Phil Bolsta Says:

Thanks so much for the kind wishes, M.D. And congratulations to you and your son as well. That’s quite an accomplishment!
