When you feel attuned to God and bathed in the healing, protective glow of God’s love, you recognize fear for the illusion that it is.
Clouds don’t worry about falling into the sea because they can’t (a) fall or (b) drown. But they are free to believe they can, and they may fear if they wish.
You realize it is not the adversity that needs to be changed, it is you that needs to be changed in order to face the adversity with greater courage and faith.
It is quite useless knocking at the door of heaven for earthly comfort. It’s not the sort of comfort they supply there.
C. S. Lewis
Faith alone is not enough, of course. To the extent that you can, you must take appropriate action.
Call on God, but row away from the rocks.
Do whatever you feel will move you in the right direction, no matter how insignificant it may seem.
It is better to light a single candle than to curse the darkness.
Motto of the Christophers
Stronger still is faith bolstered not only by action but by purpose. In Man’s Search for Meaning, concentration camp survivor Viktor Frankl explained that prisoners whose minds were fixated on an all-consuming reason to live—reuniting with loved ones, completing an unfinished work, alerting the world to atrocities—were much more likely to survive.
If we possess our why of life, we can put up with almost any how.

Phil’s eBook, The Logic of Living a Spiritual Life: Supporting a Life of Faith Through Logic and Reason, is now available for 99 cents on Amazon.
Order it at GodIsLogical.com.
In this eBook, you’ll find answers to questions like:
• What is the cornerstone of a spiritual life, and why?
• What is the secret to liberating yourself from other people’s judgments and expectations?
• Why is there an exception to “Everything happens for a reason”?
Those who worship logic instead of God are only half right. Not only is it logical to believe in God and to live a faith-based life, the existence of a loving, benevolent God that governs all creation is perhaps the only systematic worldview that explains every aspect of life.
