Ya gotta love auditions like this in which the performer looks so hopelessly out of place that the judges can’t help but roll their eyes. When thirty-year-old burrito slinger Josh Krajcik said that he was going to sing At Last by Etta James, Simon Cowell disdainfully replied, “Really?” Yes, Simon. Really. As in really, really great.
Ya also gotta love Josh’s reaction at the very end of the video as he walks away with his hyper-proud Mom. What else can you do after a surreal, life-changing moment like this than rear your head back and laugh and laugh and laugh some more.
Here’s a recap of Josh’s performance from My Fox NY:
In pure dramatic fashion of “things aren’t always what they seem,” Josh Krajcik wowed judges and the audience alike on the “The X Factor” this week.
When the 30-year-old scruffy Ohio man took the stage in jeans, t-shirt, sloppy jacket and sneakers and belted out Etta James’ “At Last,” no one, including notoriously hard-nosed judge Simon Cowell, expected to hear the incredibly powerful voice that come from Krajcik.
After he finished crooning the soulful song, Cowell told Krajcik, “I’ve gotta say, Josh. I always thought after a few auditions over the years I wouldn’t be surprised again. And then you started singing and it just blew me away. You are honest. You didn’t come out here with any gimmicks. Good for you.”
The praise continued from there from the rest of the judges, and the self-described “burrito-slinger” Krajcik couldn’t help but smile and say thank you as the 3,000 plus crowd in the audience kept on cheering him on.
At one point, Krajcik’s mother, who drove him the seven hours from Ohio to Chicago to audition, yelled from back stage, “He killed it!”
Judge Paula Abdul praised Krajcik, saying, “There are just certain voices that the second you open your mouth to sing, it gets in our skin. What a treat.”
Judge L.A. Reid agreed, but jokingly told Krajcik, “I get why you’re dressed like that. You aren’t fooling me for a second. This is your before, because the after’s gonna be … You are too good. You are way too good.”
Reid also told Krajcik that he better give his burrito-slinging job to someone else.
Congratulations to Josh for finishing runner-up to winner Melanie Amaro!

Phil’s eBook, The Logic of Living a Spiritual Life: Supporting a Life of Faith Through Logic and Reason, is now available for 99 cents on Amazon.
Order it at GodIsLogical.com.
In this eBook, you’ll find answers to questions like:
• What is the cornerstone of a spiritual life, and why?
• What is the secret to liberating yourself from other people’s judgments and expectations?
• Why is there an exception to “Everything happens for a reason”?
Those who worship logic instead of God are only half right. Not only is it logical to believe in God and to live a faith-based life, the existence of a loving, benevolent God that governs all creation is perhaps the only systematic worldview that explains every aspect of life.
