Waking the Wizard WIthin

In church yesterday, the minister offered an intriguing analogy that I hadn’t considered before. He used Harry Potter as an illustration of Self-relaization.

At the start of Harry’s story, he was living with a family that treated him poorly; his room was a small closet underneath the stairs. He felt alienated and alone. Life was miserable. Ah, but then Harry is paid a visit by a mysterious, larger-than-life figure who tells him that he is special, that he possesses extraordinary powers, and that a great destiny awaits him.

Like Harry, you too may have been living in the darkness of delusion, unaware of your extraordinary heritage. One day, if it hasn’t happened already, you will be visited by a yearning that awakens you to the knowledge that you are a Divine spark, a child of God, that your destiny is assured, and that the whole universe is yours to command. And the heaviness of the world will fall away as if it had never been.

The moral? There is no need to struggle as a muggle. Wake the wizard within and be the hero you were born to be!

    Ah, good point.

    Agreed, Jeyna!

  3. Rachel Says:

I went to a Buddhist teaching that involved Harry and the Dementors. We were all asked to think of what our patronus would be. It was difficult. Had to be something from a time when you felt both happy and powerful.

  4. Phil Bolsta Says:

I hope you are happier and more powerful now than you’ve ever been, Rachel!
