Reunion Soldier

Sometimes, in the most ordinary of circumstances, something extraordinary happens that simply cannot be the product of chance. But why it happened and what it means may forever be a mystery. This story by my friend Judy offers a perfect example of a weird and wonderful coincidence that defies explanation.

John, a family friend, sprawled across my physical therapy table. “Judy, my legs have been hurting,” he said with a wince. “Can you do some reflexology massage on my feet for the pain?” As he closed his eyes to relax, I gently rocked his knee and femur, opening the lower hip area. The room was peaceful, filled with the soothing sound of a Mozart sonata.

As I was doing some reflexology and energy healing work on his right foot, I saw an image in my mind’s eye of John wearing a Civil War hat, waving at me as he holstered his rifle to go off to war. I was a young girl, dressed in a long, cotton frock, waving back from a farmhouse door. Smiling, I dismissed the vision as an unusual day dream. After working on John for a while, I left him on the table so I could make dinner for my family and him.

We were digging into the salad when John looked up and said, “You know, when you were touching my right foot, I saw the strangest pictures. I was dressed as a soldier with a blue Civil War hat. I was waving to you as I went off to battle. You stood at the doorway of a farmhouse in a long cotton dress.” Needless to say, I just about dropped my fork in astonishment!

We both had seen the same image at the same time. Was it from a past life? Had we connected before? We’ll never know . . . or will we?
