Move Over, Pavarotti, Here Comes Jonathan Antoine!

Jonathan Antoine and Charlotte Jaconelli

When Jonathan Antoine and Charlotte Jaconelli walked onstage to audition for Britain’s Got Talent on Saturday, March 24, 2012, Simon Cowell turned to a fellow judge and whispered, “Just when you think things couldn’t get any worse.”

Then Jonathan began to sing. One minute and forty-three seconds later, after Jonathan had belted out a final note that was breathtaking in its power and grandeur, all four judges were on their feet and the audience had risen as one to welcome a new star to the world.

I had never seen Simon so awed by a performance, not even by Susan Boyle’s debut. All Simon could say was, “Wow, wow, wow, wow. Oh my God.”

It was especially touching to watch Jonathan tremble with excitement and joy as he and Charlotte basked in the thundering applause after their performance. To go from being bullied at school, which had caused Jonathan to have a nervous breakdown and drop out, to being celebrated on a global stage, would be enough to make anyone tremble.

After the duo’s performance in the finals, Simon Cowell had this to say:

Tonight made me feel quite emotional . . . because it made me realize that with you two, not only are you both talented, but your loyalty and friendship is what’s made this act so special. And you’re both lucky to have each other.

Right on, Simon!

Here is a write-up of Charlotte and Jonathan’s audition from Yahoo!:

A 17-year-old overweight boy has left the audience and judges of Britain’s Got Talent with their jaws on the floor with his amazing opera voice.

“Just when you think things couldn’t get any worse,” Britain’s Got Talent mastermind Simon Cowell said to guest judge Carmen Electra as the duo consisting of Jonathan Antoine and Charlotte Jaconelli took the stage.

Boy, was he wrong!

Jonathan, who couldn’t hide just how nervous he was when Cowell asked him why he didn’t say much, admitted he had always had confidence problems because of his size.

“I’m quite protective of Jonathan,” his singing partner, Charlotte, said. “As clichéd as it is, you can’t judge a book by its cover.”

“I really don’t think I would be going up on stage if I didn’t have Charlotte by my side,” Jonathan added.

It only took a few notes out of Jonathan’s mouth to get the audience on their feet clapping and cheering.

And not only the audience was blown away by Jonathan’s operatic chops and Charlotte’s pop voice, the judges (including Cowell) had no choice but to join in on the standing ovation.

Nonetheless, Cowell was not sold on the idea of an opera/pop duo. “Charlotte, I think you’re good,” he said. “But Jonathan you are unbelievable, you have an outstandingly good voice.”

Cowell, who called Jonathan a “future star”, told Charlotte he was worried she would only hold Jonathan back.

“We’ve come on here as a duo, and we’re going to stay here as a duo,” Jonathan immediately replied.

And cue the tears…

Needless to say, the duo made it to the next stage of the show.

In this eBook, you’ll find answers to questions like:
• What is the cornerstone of a spiritual life, and why?
• What is the secret to liberating yourself from other people’s judgments and expectations?
• How do you reconcile the “free will vs. Divine Will” conundrum?
• Why is there an exception to “Everything happens for a reason”?

Those who worship logic instead of God are only half right. Not only is it logical to believe in God and to live a faith-based life, the existence of a loving, benevolent God that governs all creation is perhaps the only systematic worldview that explains every aspect of life.
