In church this morning, the minister used a nice analogy within an analogy. Life, he said, is like a school and we are constantly being tested.
Comparing life to school is a common comparison, but what made me laugh was when he added that when we were in school and had to take a test, we didn’t moan, “Why is this happening to me?!?!” You knew why it was happening to you—you were in school and that meant taking tests!
So it is with life. You should tackle each obstacle with equal parts detachment, discernment and determination, recognizing that it contains divinely encoded instructions designed to further your growth. The higher your consciousness, the greater the chance you will recognize the divine reason behind your “misfortune,” thus learning the intended lesson.
Learning a lesson and taking it to heart eliminates the need for you to endure future situations designed to deliver the same message—unless you drift back into old, familiar patterns and need another wake-up call.
Experience is the toughest teacher because she gives the test first, and then the lesson.
