Today is the National Day of Prayer, an annual observance inviting people of all faiths to come together to pray and to heal. This year’s theme is “Lord, Hear Our Cry,” which asks us to place our faith in the power of God and reach out through prayer during our darkest hours.
In this passage from In the Sanctuary of the Soul: A Guide to Effective Prayer, he reminds us that we can and should seek help through prayer:
God does help those who help themselves. When your mind is calm and filled with faith after praying to God in meditation, you are able to see various answers to your problems; and because your mind is calm, you are capable of picking out the best solution. Follow that solution, and you will meet with success. This is applying the science of religion in your daily life.
Yogananda established the Self-Realization Fellowship Worldwide Prayer Circle, a network of groups and individuals dedicated to praying for those in need of physical, mental, or spiritual aid, and for global peace and harmony.
SRF strongly believes that prayer offers the potential to heal physical, mental and spiritual afflictions, to foster peace between people of all faiths and backgrounds, and to create a deeper understanding of the unity of all religions.
