This photo was taken at the Self-Realization Fellowship Lake Shrine Temple on January 31, 2014. Why is that date significant? It is the 100th anniversary of the birth of Sri Daya Mata, who served as the beloved president of SRF from 1955 until her passing on November 30, 2010.
On the night before Daya Ma’s guru, Paramahansa Yogananda, left this world, he told her, “When I am gone, only love can take my place. Be so drunk with the love of God that you will know nothing but God; and give that love to all.”
She carried out her guru’s wishes with unfailing devotion. Daya Ma was known the world over for epitomizing unconditional motherly love. One of her books is even titled Only Love.
On January 31, 2014, Daya Ma’s hundredth birthday, an SRF devotee was attending a monastic-led retreat at Lake Shrine when she noticed that the sky was looking especially beautiful. So she snapped some photos on her iPhone at three o’clock in the afternoon. Later, when she looked at this particular photo, she gasped. Directly above the point of the Temple is a heart-shaped cloud.
Clearly, Daya Ma was reminding devotees the world over that just as her guru told her, “Only love can take my place.”
