Devotion + Dedication = Enlightenment

December 16, 2010

A religious or spiritual path that demands that I  follow an external set of rules based on the experience of others does not appeal to me. I value paths that encourage me to seek my own experiences through inner exploration and discovery.

Many a doctrine is like a window pane. We see truth through it but it divides us from truth.
Kahlil Gibran

Sufism is one such path. Guidance is required but it is up to the spiritual seeker to do the work necessary to gain enlightenment. Click here for my video interview on the principles of Sufism with Dr. Ibrahim Jaffe, the leader of the Shadhiliyya Sufi order in the United States, and the founder of both the Shadhiliyya Sufi Center and the University of Spiritual Healing and Sufism.

Self-Realization Fellowship is another path that demands much of its followers. As founder Paramahansa Yogananda said in a Thursday evening talk at the Self-Realization Fellowship temple in Encinitas, California, some sixty years ago:

Most religions try to hold followers by rousing their emotions or intellect, or insisting on blind belief in theological dogma. But the Masters of India hold you by (more…)

My Video Interview With Dr. Ibrahim Jaffe on Principles of Sufism

August 29, 2010

Dr. Ibrahim Jaffe

It was my pleasure, privilege and honor to interview Sufi healer Dr. Ibrahim Jaffe about the principles of Sufism. I’ve known Ibrahim for a dozen years and I always enjoy our discussions. He is a man of great love and wisdom and I am always happy to share his insights and loving energy with others.

The following interview was conducted on August 25, 2010. I asked him six primary questions about Sufism. Because we wanted each of the questions to function as a standalone video, each video begins with an introduction and an opening prayer.

Here is Ibrahim’s bio:

Dr. Ibrahim Jaffe is a licensed medical doctor, as well as a spiritual teacher and a gifted master healer in the sufi tradition. He is the leader of the Shadhiliyya Sufi order in the United States, and the founder of both the Shadhiliyya Sufi Center and the University of Spiritual Healing and Sufism. Ibrahim lives in northern California, where he continues to teach, travel and work on his forthcoming book.

I was fortunate enough to attend one of Ibrahim’s weekend workshops back in 1998 and I can attest that the experience was life-changing. The lessons I learned about love and healing in those three days still resonate deeply within me today and inform much of my work.

Many thanks to Pat Aylward, Ibrahim’s loyal devotee in Minneapolis, who arranged the interview and supplied the questions. Thanks also to Steve Walsh, who provided the video equipment and technical expertise.

Here are the six videos, which range in length from nine to sixteen minutes. Also included is a two-minute bonus video in which Ibrahim shares a story that illustrates the inherent perfection in apparently less-than-perfect events. (more…)

Dr. Ibrahim Jaffe

I conducted this interview with Dr. Ibrahim Jaffe shortly after attending his 1998 weekend workshop, which was truly life-changing. Ibrahim’s love and wisdom resonated deeply within me and I have learned much from him, including the Awareness Release Technique, a powerful method to achieve deep and lasting healing.

We have kept in touch over the years and, in fact, I interviewed him for my book, Sixty Seconds: One Moment Changes Everything. In that story, he recounts how he redirected his healing path after witnessing a deathbed ritual involving three rabbis and a cage filled with doves.

DIVINE MARRIAGE

Ibrahim Jaffe, M.D., a licensed medical doctor, clairvoyant, healer and spiritual teacher, co-founded what is now the University of Spiritual Healing & Sufism in 1988. . In this interview, Dr. Jaffe explains how Divine Marriage can transform an ordinary relationship into a divine vessel of God realization.

What exactly is a Divine Marriage?
A Divine Marriage has been blessed by God and is a vehicle for the complete merging, spiritual evolvement and ascension of both partners. It is a deep bonding of love and commitment that is the foundation for peace which will extend to our families, others and to the world at large. (more…)

The Lion and the Gazelle

December 24, 2008

At a 1998 weekend workshop I attended, Dr. Ibrahim Jaffe, founder of the University of Spiritual Healing and Sufism, shared a life-changing story with his students.

Ibrahim said that after watching a TV nature program in which a lion savagely ripped apart a gazelle, he had been distraught. Retreating into meditation, he implored God, How could you allow such carnage and tragedy to exist? The response he received humbled him and restored his faith in divine intelligence. “I felt and saw through inner revelation how this incident was experienced from a higher level as pure love and that it was beautiful beyond description,” he told those of us in his class.

It all comes down to perspective. To our unenlightened eyes, this world may appear cruel and harsh, but even the brutality (more…)

THE HEALING POWER OF LOVE

Ibrahim Jaffe, M.D., a licensed medical doctor, clairvoyant, healer and spiritual teacher, co-founded what is now the University of Spiritual Healing & Sufism in 1988. Dr. Jaffe has done extensive research on how emotional and psychological issues alter the human energy field and cause disease. In this interview, Dr. Jaffe discusses the dynamics of energetic healing, his passionate quest to share his knowledge and skills with others, and his belief that all of us can heal our lives by connecting with the deep love of God.

Dr. Jaffe, what role does love play in healing?
Basically, all healing comes from awareness and love: awareness of what has caused the problem and then using that awareness to reconnect the discordant energy back to the deep love of God. The ultimate goal is to immerse yourself completely in the deep love and maintain that connection in every moment of your life, which will prevent disease from ever occurring. (more…)

Healing is a Choice

November 29, 2008

At a 1998 weekend workshop conducted by spiritual healer Dr. Ibrahim Jaffe, I learned about energy healing, the practice of balancing the energy field that surrounds the human body. On the final day, Ibrahim demonstrated his healing method on a few of the participants. One woman he brought up to the front of the class had sustained injuries in a car accident that restricted the use of various parts of her body, including her hands.

After only a minute or so of working with her energy, Ibrahim, who is clairvoyant, stopped and gently said, “You could be healed right now, but you’re not ready for that, are you?” To my astonishment, she agreed. She explained that she had obsessive-compulsive disorder and was actually thrilled when she could no longer use her hands because that meant she didn’t have to touch doorknobs. She added that the thought of being healthy was such a foreign concept to her that she was afraid of it, that she wouldn’t know how to think or act in the absence of her maladies.

I was dumbfounded. For the first time, I realized that (more…)

Healing with the Awareness Release Technique

Dr. Ibrahim Jaffe

At a life-changing seminar with Dr. Ibrahim Jaffe ten years ago, I was taught the Awareness Release Technique (ART), a powerful method to achieve deep and lasting healing. While ART may be used for both physical and emotional issues, for the purpose of this article, I’m focusing on the healing of emotional wounds.

The premise behind ART is that there is a core energy behind every emotional issue. By identifying and expelling this energy, the issue goes with it.

While the effects of an ART session can be long-lasting, if the subject reverts back to the lifestyle pattern that created the issue in the first place, the negative energy associated with it will most likely return and once again take up residence.
