When twenty-three-year-old college student Julie Moss entered the 1982 Ironman Triathlon in Hawaii as research for her exercise physiology thesis, she never dreamed that her heroic finish would trigger a personal epiphany, legitimize and popularize the sport, and make her an international icon.
