In Return from Tomorrow, George Ritchie’s detailed and inspiring account of his near-death experience as a nineteen-year-old soldier, he writes:

I was not sure when the light in the room began to change; suddenly I was aware that it was brighter, a lot brighter, than it had been. I whirled to look at the night-light on the bedside table. Surely a single 15-watt bulb could not turn out that much light?

I stared in astonishment as the brightness increased, coming from nowhere, seeming to shine everywhere at once. All the light bulbs in the ward could not give off that much light. All the bulbs in the world could not! It was impossibly bright: it was like a million welders’ lamps all blazing at once. And right in the middle of my amazement came a prosaic thought, probably born of (more…)

Anita Moorjani— “Go Back and Live Fearlessly”

October 8, 2011

Anita Moorjani

Anita Moorjani‘s account of her near-death experience on February 2, 2006, is the most powerful and profound story I have ever encountered, not just because of her astonishing experience beyond this world but because her body healed itself of her end-stage cancer (Hodgkin’s Lymphoma) within days of her return to this life.

The above video interview with Anita was conducted in August 2011 by Lilou Mace, a French-American author, webTV host and international Internet video blogger since 2005, a prominent proponent of ‘practical’ spirituality and co-founder of a global Internet community.

If fear rules your life, if the quality of your days are compromised by anxiety and second-guessing, Anita’s story may be the key to finally stepping into your own beauty and power and living the joyous life that is your birthright.

I was particularly struck by two of Anita’s comments:

• What convinced her to come back to her body were these words from her long-deceased father: “It’s not your time . . . Go back and live fearlessly.”

• How she described a major epiphany: “The biggest thing I learned was that I just had to go and be myself and live life with abandon, and my purpose would unfold before me. I just had to allow it, that’s all. Not pursue it but allow it.”

The Woman in the Fifth Car Back

Caroline Myss

Caroline Myss
has lots of great stories. This one is my all-time favorite. I got chills hearing her tell it live at a seminar. This excerpt is from her wonderful book, Why People Don’t Heal and How They Can.

One of the most profound stories that I ever heard in a workshop was told by a woman who had been seriously injured in a car accident and had had a near-death experience—I’ll call her Maggie. Maggie was so shattered that she went out of her body, and in that state, floating above the scene of the accident, she could hear how people in cars behind were were responding to the accident. Some were deeply (more…)

Psychic/author Kathryn Harwig told me a story for my book, Sixty Seconds: One Moment Changes Everything. Credit to Kathryn for reframing a hellish experience as a spiritual wake-up call. Click here to watch a video of Kathryn sharing her powerful story. Here’s an excerpt:

One Sunday night during dinner, six weeks before I finished law school, I suddenly felt an intense pain in my chest. Minutes later, I was screaming (more…)
