You Can Choose a Better Reality

April 18, 2014

two-men-having-lunch-talkingAt lunch today, a friend asserted some opinions about parenting and romantic relationships that, based upon his experiences and observations, he regarded as absolutes.

I disagreed, informing him that my experiences were the direct opposite of his. I essentially told him, “Your reality is not my reality. Therefore, it is not the only reality. Therefore, you can choose to live in a different, better reality.”

He didn’t budge. His beliefs had caused him great stress throughout his life and were responsible for many unnecessary roadblocks, but he remained convinced that the way he saw the world was the way it was, period.

The only reason the same thing keeps happening is that (more…)

All the World’s a Stage

January 25, 2012

Imagine an actor playing a character who is plagued by terrible financial, relationship and career troubles. The actor must inhabit that character and let the character inhabit him—to the point that the character’s problems become so real to him that he considers them his problems. Only then will he be able to act authentically and give a credible performance. Yet when the movie wraps or the play ends, the actor drops the character’s problems at the stage door and returns to his real life.

So it is with your life. If you would but step back and look at the world through God’s eyes instead of your own, you would see that, like the actor playing a role before returning to reality, you (more…)

The Waiter Merely Nods

March 27, 2011

Your thoughts are not just gossamer wisps of nothingness confined to the nether regions of your mind.

I hold it true that thoughts are things,
Endowed with bodies, breath, and wings.

Ella Wheeler Wilcox

Thoughts are conscious energy that radiate out into the unified field, vibrationally connecting you to all of creation. Thus, where your attention goes, energy flows. Since every (more…)

Sit Down In the Fire

March 12, 2010

The step-by-step transformation from ignorance to cosmic consciousness is vividly portrayed in the blockbuster movie, The Matrix. In the beginning, Neo, the central character, is clueless that his world is an elaborate fabrication. Exposed to the truth, he continues to resist until the existence of a different reality can no longer be ignored. Over time, he wraps his mind around the concept until it is fully integrated into his consciousness. Finally, as his life hangs in the balance, he experiences an epiphany and becomes one with the cosmos.

If your knowledge of fire has been turned to certainty by words alone, then seek to be cooked by the fire itself. Don’t abide in borrowed certainty. There is no real certainty until you burn; if you wish for this, sit down in the fire.

Neo’s journey—fictional, yes, (more…)

Is Our Reality God’s Picture Show?

December 14, 2009

In Vibrational Medicine, Dr. Richard Gerber describes all matter as “frozen light,” light which has been slowed down and become solid. This light, the light of divine consciousness, can be compared to the light emanating from a movie projector.

As moving pictures are sustained
by a beam of light coming from the projection booth of a movie house,
so are all of us sustained by the Cosmic
Beam, the Divine Light pouring from
the projection booth of Eternity.
Paramahansa Yogananda

The forms projected on the screen appear separate from one another; but try to grab an object from the screen and you discover that, just as all of creation is but a single divine thought, the lifelike reality on the screen is produced by a single beam of light.

The external world of physics has thus become a world of shadows. In removing our illusions we remove the substance, for indeed we have seen that substance is (more…)
