Outwit Your Adversaries with Love

When you are treated poorly, when you are not respected, when you are ignored or mocked or scorned, recognize that the way someone treats you says far less about you than it does about them. As Wayne Dyer so beautifully pointed out, “How people treat you is their karma; how you react is yours.”

Keep your consciousness high by responding to such unloving treatment with love. Respond to being excluded with an attitude of inclusion. Poet Edwin Markham eloquently addressed this issue in a poem from his 1913 book, The Shoes of Happiness, and Other Poems:

He drew a circle that shut me out—

Your Body or This Body?

If you are hurting, or you’re exhausted, and you just can’t find the energy to do what you need to do, try this simple shift of perception: Instead of saying, “I’m in pain,” or “I’m tired,” tell yourself, “This body is in pain,” or “This body is tired.”

Thinking and speaking this way is a powerful reminder that who you are is far more than just your body. What’s more, it helps you (more…)
