god-and-heart-in-sandThis beautiful love poem to God by medieval German theologian Meister Eckhart succinctly and eloquently expresses the unity of all creation, the origin of all life and the essence of our very being. Of course, those three subjects are simply expressions of the one truth: Everything is God.

The only distance between you and God is the thought that there is distance between you and God. Expand the scope of your vision by looking through God’s eyes, and no matter what you look at, it will be brimming over with God’s loving presence.

YOUR DISCONTENT IS THE FIRST STEP TOWARD AWAKENING

In our day-to-day lives, most of our attention tends to focus on the realities of the conventional world: our relationships, perhaps raising children, going to school or work, addressing issues in the areas of health and finances.

At the same time, we each experience, from time to time or even persistently, that whispered voice of our heart or higher self, reminding us and calling us to look beyond the conventional world to a higher or transcendent reality.

The Power of One

Knowledge is power. Well, kind of sort of. Knowledge opens the door to wisdom, which spiritualizes experiences, which is the gateway to enlightenment . . . and when you reconnect with the Source of all that is, you will finally know true power.

That was the thought process I had upon reading this enchanting parable told by Hazrat Inayat Khan, a Sufi teacher from India. I hope you enjoy it!

THE POWER OF ONE

A young lad was sent to school. He began his lessons with the other children, and the first lesson the teacher set him was the straight line, the figure “one.” But whereas the others went on progressing, this child continued writing the same figure. After two or three days the teacher came up to him and said, “Have you finished your lesson?” He said, “No, I am still writing ‘one.'” He went on doing the same thing, and when at the end of the week the teacher asked him again he said, “I have not yet finished it.” The teacher thought he was an idiot and should be sent away, as he could not or did not want to learn.
